In 2024, our region again excelled in the Pascoes Tennis Masters National Championships, clinching multiple gold medals. David Theyers and Gloria Wilmot secured another victory in the mixed doubles, dominating the 80-year-old and over category. Additionally, David partnered with Auckland's John Cook to claim the men's doubles title.

David Theyers

David's exceptional legacy spans over 22 appearances in the National Masters since 1992. He has reached the men's doubles final for his age group an impressive 20 times, earning 10 gold and 10 silver medals. Only two instances, marred by injury, kept him or his partner from the final. This remarkable achievement extends across eight different age groups, starting from 45 and progressing through 50, 55, 60, 70, 75, all the way up to his recent triumph in the 80-plus age group.

Furthermore, David has participated in the mixed doubles event 21 times, securing 10 gold and eight silver medals along the way.

David maintains an active tennis schedule, frequently joining a delightful group of approximately 80-year-olds at the Warkworth club each week for some friendly matches.

Gloria Wilmot

Gloria Wilmot, who turns 82 in 2024, is the same age as her mixed doubles partner, David. Her remarkable playing record boasts an abundance of gold medals in her age group, a tally too numerous to quantify. In addition to her consistent presence in the open-age singles interclub, Gloria is a familiar sight at the Warkworth Rackets Club, where she can be found playing tennis most weeks.
