WIMBLEDON THEMED EVENT AT MTC

Marlborough Tennis Club celebrated the Wimbledon Grand Slam with a themed event on Saturday 18 July 2026, extending an invitation to Rapaura Club to join the fun. Two teams were formed for the occasion: MTC, playing as "Team Sinner," and Rapaura, playing as "Team Zverev."

Over two 50-minute sessions, with partners reshuffled between rounds, Team Sinner mirrored the outcome of the Wimbledon Final itself. Session Two finished level on games won, meaning Team Sinner's lead from Session One decided the overall result in their favour.

A new trophy, to be contested annually around the Wimbledon dates, was presented by Committee Member Allan McWilliams to Acting Captain Brian Powell.

The best-dressed competition brought its own drama. Sarah Mason took out the women's title in full Wimbledon whites, taking home a plate trophy for her efforts. Brian Powell backed up his on-court success by winning best-dressed man, turning out in an early-era Wimbledon outfit.

No Wimbledon event would be complete without the food, and Hilary Wilkey delivered on that front with a spread of cucumber sandwiches and strawberries and cream cake. Pimm's was on hand at the bar to round out the afternoon.

Many thanks to Hilary for the catering, and to everyone at MTC and Rapaura who made the day a success.
