NEWSLETTER 26TH OCTOBER 2024

Mike Hill

A long time Member and Club enthusiast Mike Hill died recently after a long period of poor health.  The Club sent condolence to his wife, Leslie and family.  There was a private funeral.

Light Project for Courts 6 and 7

Sufficient funds to commit to starting the project come from savings made by the Committee and the generosity of Members who pledged financial support.  The pledged funds were significantly enhanced by a donation of $20k from the Marlborough Tennis Association when they passed monies to all their affiliated clubs.

The level of current funding has enabled your committee to be confident in starting the contract work with the agreed suppliers and it is anticipated that installation will take place in March 2025 (There is a significant lead time for the manufacture of the lights and poles.  The former are pre-set in the factory following computer modelling to get the best light coverage.

The Committee is very grateful to all those Members who have been able to contribute.  If a Member has not done so and is able to be of financial assistance please give it consideration.  We need a final push to complete the project (which includes installing a new double gate entrance at the rear of the Pro-shop so that machinery and hardware can access Bay 2 to undertake the installation).  You can contribute by bank transfer to our account and add ‘lights’ as the reference.  If you have any queries call Bill Taylor on 0278680691.

Co-Captains

Following the AGM the Club now has Co-Captains, namely Stephen Dempster and Taylor Keen.  They will to the fore when organising representative teams for Inter Club Competitions.

Club Championships

For several years now Club Championships have been either poorly supported or not held at all.  The Committee would like to reverse that trend and will be looking for available dates in another wise busy Calendar and your support in holding the events would be greatly appreciated.

Club Administration

The decision not to have a part-time Office Manager was mainly influenced by the need for the Club to trim expenses in a challenging economic climate and because securing funds from ‘Granting Bodies’ has become increasingly difficult.  The flow on consequence is that Club Members will have to take on some of the tasks that would have fallen to the Office Manager and give additional support to the Committee’s work. Much of the need is for routine tasks that, when shared, are neither onerous nor time consuming.  A schedule of the need is being prepared and will be circulated to Members inviting assistance.  Please consider volunteering to assist.

Summer League (SL) and President Grade (PG) Competitions

Both these competitions are well under way and apart from a ‘Christmas Break’ go through to March 2025.  SL on a Thursday at 5.45pm and PG on a Tuesday at 5.45pm.

If not already playing or on the Reserve Lists and would like to be involved call Bill Taylor on 0278680691.  More players are always welcome and much appreciated.

Club Website and Facebook Page

We aim to make the Website and Facebook more informative and current.  One of our Members, Peter Ryan, is taking a lead with these two facilities and has already made a welcome difference.  Please regard both sites as a current and ready source of information as we expand their value for the Club.
