Child Safeguarding Policy

Waihi Tennis Club, Inc. embraces policies and practices that support and protect children and young people.  We acknowledge that every person involved in our club has a legal and moral responsibility to protect children and young people from abuse and neglect.

Waihi Tennis Club, Inc. follows the Safe Tennis guidelines created by NZ Tennis.

Code of Conduct

Waihi Tennis Club, Inc. is a friendly and welcoming club.  Our members play fair, enjoy their sport, and treat other members, visitors, and club property with respect. Our members represent our club well and with pride. We want to maintain these standards and our good reputation.

The following are the general expectations our club has for the behaviour of members, while at our club and when representing our club.  For details of the specific expectations, members should refer to the Safe Tennis Guidelines created by NZ Tennis and the Code of Conduct created by Pickleball New Zealand Association.

1.  Conduct Towards Others

Members of our club are expected to play fairly by the rules of the game they are playing and follow accepted codes of conduct for tennis and pickleball. Our expectations for behaviour are based on what would generally be considered reasonable and good sporting conduct towards others. 

Unacceptable conduct includes behaviour and language that is offensive or insulting, unsafe, or distracts or impacts others.  Physical threats, physical intimidation, or physical violence in any form will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

These expectations extend to all persons present at our club, and all members representing our club in any way, whether they are playing, supporting, coaching or acting as an official.

2.  Conduct Towards Property

For protection of our courts:

  • Appropriate non-marking footwear only on the courts;
  • No scooters, bikes or other inappropriate items on the courts;
  • No throwing of anything likely to damage the court surface, nets or walls.

For protection of our buildings, physical facilities and equipment:

  • All players, supporters, parents, coaches and visitors to the our club will treat our club rooms, equipment and facilities with respect.
  • No deliberate or reckless behaviour that causes (or is likely to cause) damage to property.

3.  Access Codes

Lock combination or access codes belong to individual members and should not be shared with non-members to provide access to any club facilities.

4.  Complaint Process

Any complaint in relation to these rules may be communicated in writing to a member of the committee. The committee may also instigate an own motion investigation. For a complete explanation of the complaint and review process, please refer to the club rules here.
