LIFE MEMBERSHIPS

Congratulations to Ivan Southon and Mike Cronin who were awarded LIFE MEMBERSHIPS at the AGM for their years of dedicated service to the Whanganui Tennis Club.
Well done Ivan and Mike!

BUSINESS HOUSE STARTS 21ST OCTOBER

A new Business House League will start in Term 4 on Thursday 21st October. It is a combined Business House with the Squash Club. The leagues will run separately, but we will come together at 7:30pm for drinks and dinner, along with raffles and spot prizes.

When: Thursdays 5:30pm - 7:30pm. Starts 21st October.
Duration: 7 weeks in Term 4
Tennis Teams: 4 players (any gender combinations)
Tennis Grades: Social and Competitive
Tennis Format: Each player has 3 doubles matches, playing with each team member. Each match is 20mins, with a break of 20 mins between matches.
Tennis Fee: $80 per team
Dinner: Buy a meal ticket before matches start. Menu will vary from burges & chips, Pizza, and BBQ.

"Back to Tennis" for 2021

Those adult non-members who are keen to return to tennis or who wish to learn to play tennis, can enjoy an hour of FREE tennis coaching on all the Wednesday nights in October 2021 from 5:45pm, starting on 6 October 2021.

WHANGANUI JUNIOR OPEN

Wow what a busy 4 days we had running the tournament. We had over 20 club members pitching in to help make the tournament a huge success. We had members setting up the facility, packing up, running the kitchen and bar, cleaning, umpiring, and match scheduling. Plus we had a number of families donate home-baking for the kitchen. It was a real team effort.

The feedback from the players and supporters was excellent. They especially loved the fantastic facilities and extra hospitality we provide compared to other tournaments. This included the Squash Club kindly allowing us to use some of their courts for racquet ball & table-tennis. That's why 85% of our entries travel over 2 hours to play in our tournament!

The tournament profits get used by the Junior Committee to fund the junior programs, such as club coaching and rep fixtures.

Lastly, big thank you to our major sponsor St John's Club, and all our age group sponsors - Mobile Mechanical Solutions, PKS Global, Accent Curtains & Blinds, Wanganui Motors, and Allens Waste Disposal.

SENIOR INTERCLUB 2021-2022

Hi everyone,

We are wondering who might be interested in these competitions run by Tennis Manawatu.

For the Wednesday competitions, all games will be away and start at 6pm. We would expect teams to car pool and share costs of petrol. Team fees have not been confirmed at this point from Manawatu, but are something like $50. I would assume ball costs will be on top of that, plus travel.

Team formats are below.

The Saturday Senior A is the only competition on the weekend. It’s a team format that can be any gender but 4 players only. We assume the same fees apply plus balls and travel. We would hope that games would be home and away but that is tbc.

Ranking S9-S8 (maybe top S10 teenager/adult)

We need as many volunteers as possible for our LOVE TENNIS Day (Opening Day). Its the best opportunity we have to promote our club to the community, and encourage new members to join.
