Coaching
Following from the weekly Friday play, small group and individual coaching programmes are delivered by our Club Pro Justin Megraw. These are optional, and are run on Wednesdays and Thursdays through the year (including winter months, however some players only participate in the summer months).
He is assisted by trained and selected juniors from our elite squad. Players up to age 10 participate in the Hot Shots Tennis NZ programme. This is designed so that young players are able to develop skills with the right equipment.
They use low compression balls and smaller racquets, nets and courts. They start on red balls then orange and finally onto green until they are able to play full matches. From 11 years onwards they play full tennis and as well as further skill acquisition there is more emphasis on match play.
Justin will be able to recommend age/ability groups and give you a time to attend each week. He will let you know the cost for this. Coaching is available throughout the year.
Sign up for coaching on a Wednesday or Thursday, enrol at https://www.no1tennis.co.nz/rotoruatennisclub

Competitions and Interclub
There are tournaments and interclub (Saturday fixtures) for juniors over the season around the Bay of Plenty and further afield.
- Interclub – teams of 4 from Rotorua play in a 6 week Saturday morning league vs other clubs in the region 2x a year (terms 1 and 4). Half of the fixtures are home and half are away. There are 6 divisions and we enter teams into several divisions, including “green dots” for new players aged 8-10. Players are placed according to ability and age and each team has a manger to look after them and help arrange transport. Cost of entry is FREE for members at Lynmore or Rotorua. Contact Nick Gentle if you are interested in Interclub.
- Club and BOP championship events. Members get entry into club championship tournaments usually played in March-April. Players high school age or over can also enter senior tournaments (singles, doubles, mixed doubles). Rotorua is part of the BOP region, which also has junior and senior championship tournaments. Entry to these events is usually FREE and dates are notified via email from the club.
- Graded and other junior tournaments are frequently put on by BOP, WBOP and Waikato clubs. These usually have an entry fee and are one-day events. Details are notified by email, or you can look on the Tenns NZ Tournament website https://tnz.tournamentsoftware.com/
- Multi-day tournaments are held throughout the year for more competitive players. Contact Nick Gentle for more information.
- Intra-regionals – every year BOP region (Whakatane, Rotorua and Taupo) compete vs 3 other regions (Hawkes Bays, Waikato and Western BOP ) in a junior intra-regionals 2-day event. Places are invite only as players are selected for these events.
- Schools tournaments – every year is a BOP Primary Schools, BOP Intermediate, BOP Junior Secondary Schools and BOP Senior Secondary Schools. Winning these tournaments qualifies you for entries in the Waikato Bays finals and from there the nationals. You should advise your school that you wish to enter those tournaments as entries must be made by the school.
