Newsletter August 2023

SEPTEMBER 2023

Hello members

It is a warm welcome to see Spring emerging! And it is delightful to hear that the tennis courts are once again bustling with activity.

Our club Annual General Meeting in August was successful and it is particularly great news that most of the subscriptions for the upcoming year have decreased. This indicates that the club's efforts to manage costs and provide value to its members are paying off. Lower subscription fees can help make the club more accessible and appealing to both existing and potential members. It reflects our commitment to maintaining an affordable and enjoyable experience for all participants.

If there are any more updates or details you'd like to share about the AGM or any other club activities, feel free to let us know.

It's wonderful to hear that the new lights on Row 1 have received positive feedback! The effort and dedication put in by Tim, Giuseppe, Mark, Hugo, and Milo to get these lights approved, installed, and well-received is truly commendable. The improved lighting has made a positive impact, enhancing the environment and experience for everyone involved.

Two bits of housekeeping:

Taking care of the club's facilities and grounds is important for maintaining a pleasant and functional environment. Leaving the upstairs of the Club House tidy is essential to ensure a welcoming and organized space for all members and visitors.

Similarly, refraining from parking on the volley court and grass is crucial for preserving the quality of these areas. Avoiding parking in these spaces helps maintain their usability, safety, and overall appearance. By respecting these guidelines, the club can ensure that everyone can enjoy the facilities and grounds to the fullest.

It's time to sign up for activities for the coming season.

Registration for Senior interclub, ALL juniors and  Hotshots  is required now.
We need your playing day, practice day preferences ASAP. Teams are being formed now and finalised in two weeks.

Seniors - you don't need to register as a general member, you will receive an invoice based on your current membership status.
Please let us know if you are resigning from the Club.

The sad state of our grass area 😢
It has also been noted that the combination lock on the gate has been left unlocked overnight, inviting vandals and their cars into our property.  Unfortunately this has happened in the past.
Should you use the lock, please make sure it is relocked when leaving.

Midweek (Wednesday morning social) tennis has started and  runs to 7 December before starting again in 2024.

If you haven't had an email about this and are curious - email info@tkhptennis.nz to find out more.

Winter tennis has it's perks, with a coffee afterwards at the Antigua Boat Sheds.
Sandra, Sharee and Deborah

Congratulations to Canterbury for winning the Golden Seniors Teams Festival which was held over Winter at Wilding Park.

This is a great event for 65+ players, with everyone enjoying the tennis and camaraderie.

You will spot our Bryce in the photo!

The Club has run a trial 5 weeks of Saturday Pickleball, and it is not surprising that it was very popular.   A sub-committee is being formed to work out the best way forward, so look out for future updates.
Any member keen to assist with running this on a regular basis please let the Committee  know.

A bit late, but still newsworthy: Congratulations to our club member Linda Ding and her team “DROP SHOTS”- they were the winners of Term 2's Tiki Wine and Vineyards Friday Women’s League at Wilding Park.

It sounds like Rosie and Trevor had a fantastic time visiting Roland Garros! Roland Garros is a renowned tennis venue located in Paris, known for hosting the French Open, one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments. It must have been an exciting experience for them to witness top-level tennis and soak in the atmosphere of such a prestigious tournament.

Open day for Juniors is on Sunday the 10th of September @ TKHP, Hagley Park  11.00 - 4.00pm

Plus, Love Tennis is back on the same day - Pop it on the Calendar and bring your family, friends, frenemies, grandma and cousins.

Our TKHP boys Tiger, Koji and Ray went on tour in Brisbane with coaches Hugo (Impact Tennis/ TKHP) and Gareth (All Things Tennis/BishopdaleTC) to the Rod Laver JNR events in Brisbane over Winter.

There was a great squad of 11 from Canterbury and 2 players from Wellington.

The boys played great tennis and gained invaluable experience competing in these high level events.

Congratulations to Tiger Wang, Rod Laver Lead In 12u Tier 2 singles winner.

Do you have old tennis balls lying around the garage/house/car?
We are collecting all old balls for redistribution.  Please leave them in the  large box in the men's changing room.  Thank you!

We can report that last year the sale of balls brought in just over $1,000 for the club.

Valid for all TKHP Tennis members
