Hi TKHP tennis players

Summer is officially here and the play on our lawn courts has been fantastic.  Thank you to the groundsman and helpers.

Do you recognise these faces?   This photo was in the clubhouse archives without any names.

The committee wish to acknowledge and thank the people who have quietly supported our club over the past year.  It definitely takes a team to run a volunteer club.   Special thanks to Cilla Glasson who donated the new oven in the clubhouse.

                                                        

The largest event on the calendar is our 50th Anniversary Masters Lawn Tennis Tournament in January.  You can read more below.  If you are unable to attend this, please support it by purchasing a raffle ticket for one of two beautiful hampers (limited numbers); as well as putting your name down on silent auctions running in conjunction with the tournament.

This is the last Newsletter for the year - so thank you for taking the time to read, and we hope to see you at the Club over the Summer.

The Christine van Leeuwen cup

It's History!!

We want to share with our members some history of the club and its members. Given the upcoming Masters Lawn Tennis Tournament, a story relating to it is timely.

Christina van Leeuwen was a very keen and loyal member of the Club for many years and a strong supporter of the Veterans tournament.

The tournament was first held in 1975 when Club Patron, Brian Stedman was President and Brian often played with Christina. Christina passed away in 1993 and she requested of her funeral that donations be made to the tennis club to purchase a seat - now located on Row 5. Christina's family also presented the club with a memorial cup which is presented each year to someone who has supported our tournament.

Christina's devotion to our tennis club was such that she asked that her ashes be spread (buried) at the courts and she commented that "she could make sure she tripped up the opposition if they got a point!"

We have our 50th tournament in January. Please come along and play, or volunteer to help out and honour the memory of Christina van Leeuwen.

Parking Update

The Council have started "pay to park" which is $2 for an hour and $1.30 per hour after that (maximum 3 hours).  
Our members also have the ability to park on the blue area of the map above.  This is the lawn in front of the Christchurch Old Boys Rugby changing rooms, and a small piece to the right side.  Entrance as shown on map. Please email info@tkhptennis.nz for more information.

HOLIDAY TENNIS ACADEMY 

Our weekly junior coaching is almost finished for the term, but don’t worry - our ever popular holiday academies are starting next week at TKHP 

Our professional coaching team will have coaching for all junior ages and abilities. Kids have a great time and improve every aspect of their game. 

The days and times before Christmas are Wednesday 11/12 - Friday 13/12 and then Monday 16/12 - Friday 20/12.  All the information is here:

JUNIOR HOT SHOTS 

We hope you’re kids have enjoyed the coaching in term 4. We have 2 sessions left this term for all groups, with the last term 4 coaching sessions being held on Fri 13th/Sat 14th December. 

There will be an optional FUN TOURNAMENT for all Hot Shots players on Monday 16th of December from 345PM until 530PM. This tournament costs $10.00pp to enter and to enter your child/ren you just need to email coach@tkhptennis.nz

Weekly Hot Shots coaching will resume in 2025 on Fri 7th/Sat 8th of February. In the meantime we have holiday academy coaching of course! 

JUNIOR INTERCLUB

Well done everyone for giving their best efforts on the court through the first half of the season. Just two more matches to go until the Xmas break - we hope you all go well. 

Please be aware team coaching is still going next week (last junior interclub practice day is Thursday 12/12) so please do your best to attend. 

JUNIOR TOURNAMENTS

There are a large number of tournaments our more competitive kids can contest over the Christmas holiday period.
