A letter received from Mark Belcher (the previous coach at Hagley Park Tennis)

Hi everyone,

I thought before you all totally forget your old tennis coach I would drop in and give you an update from New Plymouth.   As in Christchurch,  I'm lucky to be just 2 minutes from my club Pukekura Park Tennis Club on the edge of Pukekura Park, I'm a little out in the country - yet just 5 minutes from the ocean. The club is the largest in Taranaki with a very healthy junior membership of over 200 and close to 200 senior members. The club has a good vibe with a lot of family memberships - so connecting the parents with the kids while also playing has been a challenge. We have 10 courts, 7 astro and 3 hard which are lit, they are in 3 bays with grass and bush around so plenty of space for Caddy to roam.

Also, and I MEAN this, if you come to Taranaki and don't look me up there will be trouble and if you haven't made it here then I invite you to come and stay and am happy to be your tour guide.  I have 2 spare rooms at the moment and there are direct flights each day and some good deals on 'Grabaseat"   (this weekend was $55 each way for me)  so come and have a look around:)

Hope everyone is well and will see some of you soon:)

Christine is in the pre-planning stage of next years Seniors Tournament (20/21 January).  If you would like to get experience in running tennis events, or helping out on the day/s please contact Christine.  This event is one of the major fundraisers for our club - we urge you to join in the fun while supporting TKHP Tennis.   We are also after raffle prizes, so please drop them to committee members or our coaches when you can.

Our lawn courts are very much appreciated by all who play on them.   If you haven't tried it yet - don't miss out  (only available for a short time).

The Club is actively seeking donations of vintage tennis racquets, as depicted in the attached image. We aim to acquire a set or two for use in special events. If you come across any during your garage cleanup, kindly inform a coach or committee member at your earliest convenience. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated. 😁

It's not too early to put our Club House Spring Clean on your calendar - many hands make light work
