Newsletter June 2023

JUNE 2022

Hello members

Greetings from the start of winter! As the chilly winds and frosty mornings embrace us, we hope this newsletter finds you in good spirits. The onset of winter brings with it a unique charm and a renewed enthusiasm for our beloved sport.

In an effort to keep the courts dry and prevent water from seeping onto the playing surface, our groundskeeping volunteer team (thanking you) recently trimmed a hedge that was obstructing proper drainage. While the decision was made with the best intentions, we must acknowledge that the outcome has left the hedge looking rather unsightly.

We understand the importance of aesthetics and the value it adds to our tennis club's overall ambiance. Rest assured, we are closely monitoring the hedge and taking necessary steps to promote its recovery.

Lastly, we want to express our gratitude for your continued support and involvement in our tennis club. Until then, stay warm, stay active, and keep swinging those rackets!

P.S. The newsletter will be on  hiatus until Spring ...

Club Champs Mixed Doubles

Congratulations to our club champs Mixed Doubles finalists - Petra/Tim and Hugo/Beth.

Following a rain break and change of venue, Beth and Hugo snuck past the tough opposition to claim the title 6-4, 6-3.

Great tennis guys!

Our Annual General Meeting date has been set for Saturday the 12th of August 2023 -  3:30pm at the Clubhouse.

Pop it in your diaries and have a think about how you would like to contribute further to the club, by either becoming a committee member or offering your skills.  We would love to hear from you.

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our member, Ivan, after a brief illness.

Ivan was a familiar face at our club, always happy to help out and often arriving early to do a spot of weeding.  Ivan played regularly on Saturday and Tuesday afternoons.  He also helped organise and we enjoyed his company in the Mid Week Ladies team on Wednesday mornings.

Ivan embodied the spirit of tennis, exemplifying fair play, camaraderie, and respect for the game and his opponents. Ivan was also a true gentleman on the court. With his warm smile, unwavering sportsmanship, and gracious demeanor, he was an inspiration to us all. Ivan's gentle nature and willingness to share his expertise created an inclusive and supportive environment within our club.  Whether engaging in post-match conversations or social events, Ivan's presence was a reminder of the strong bonds we forge through our shared love for tennis.

Many of us had the privilege of sharing the court with Ivan, witnessing firsthand how he approached every match with unwavering dedication, demonstrating the joy and passion that tennis brought to his life. Ivan's presence on the court was as remarkable as his character off it, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Ivan, thank you for enriching our lives, both on and off the court. You will be deeply missed.

The new light poles for Row 1 have arrived, after a very long journey.  We are all looking forward to them being installed soon, and having them increase our tennis playing capacity on those dark winter nights.
