Newsletter December 2023

 🎄DECEMBER 2023 🎄

Hi TKHP tennis players

Summer has begun, and the grass is greener on our side, and we want YOU to experience the thrill of playing on our lawn courts! Here's why you shouldn't miss out:

  • Unmatched Aesthetics Our lawn courts are not just a playing surface; they're a visual feast. It's not just tennis; it's an aesthetic experience!
  • Classic Tennis Experience  Playing on grass is the epitome of classic tennis. The surface offers a unique challenge, requiring finesse, strategy, and quick adaptation. If you've never experienced the joy of a perfectly executed grass-court shot, now is your chance!
  • Socialize and Connect  Tennis is not just a sport; it's a social affair. Our weekly Saturday mixers and tournaments on the lawn courts provide the perfect setting to meet new people, make friends, and share your love for the game.

If at all possible, are you able to assist with:
  • A prize item (value $30+) e.g. insulated lunch bag, platter etc.
  • Smaller item which can go into a hamper e.g. Barkers products, tea towel etc
  • Baskets or attractive boxes which can be re-used
  • Cash (i.e. $20 buys half a foot massage voucher) All cash received will be accounted for.
  • Any ungifted presents which are hanging around the house
Items can be dropped off at either Rosie or Vicky's home.  Email info@tkhptennis.nz to ask for an address:

The Christine van Leeuwen cup

It's History!!

We want to share with our members some history of the club and its members. Given the upcoming Veteran's tournament, a story relating to it is timely.

Christina van Leeuwen was a very keen and loyal member of the Club for many years and a strong supporter of the Veterans tournament.

The tournament was first held in 1975 when Club Patron, Brian Stedman was President and Brian often played with Christina. Christina passed away in 1993 and she requested of her funeral that donations be made to the tennis club to purchase a seat - now located on Row 5. Christina's family also presented the club with a memorial cup which is presented each year to someone who has supported our tournament.

Christina's devotion to our tennis club was such that she asked that her ashes be spread (buried) at the courts and she commented that "she could make sure she tripped up the opposition if they got a point!"

We have our 49th tournament in January. Please come along and play, or volunteer to help out and honour the memory of Christina van Leeuwen.

Sadly our esteemed Club Patron and former Club President Brian Stedman passed away in November. His dedication and contributions to the club over the years have left an indelible mark. His 25-year tenure as Club President (1957-1982), and subsequent role as Patron showcase the profound impact he had on the club's development and success.
