Junior Training Sessions - FREE!

Junior Training is a one-hour session for Junior members held weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays (see specific dates and times below). Each session will include time practicing skills, doing drills, and getting match practice. It's a lot of fun!

All Junior Competitive team members are encouraged to attend Junior Training to improve their tennis skills and tennis fitness. Junior Social members are very welcome to join these training sessions too - yay!

Pathway from Hot Shots to Juniors (and beyond!):

Key Stages in the Pathway

Orange to Green Transition:

This critical phase emphasizes group consistency and skill parity. Players should be able to sustain an 8-ball rally and meet set skill benchmarks before advancing. Progression is based on readiness, ensuring players feel comfortable and capable in their group.

  • Focus on Rallying Skills: Rallying will be a key focus for groups beyond Red, helping players develop strong consistency and match skills. Players who excel in Orange may be moved to Green, but this level will still reinforce Orange skills if needed.
  • Building a Supportive Group Environment: We strive to maintain cohesion in each group, allowing players to progress confidently with peers at a similar level.

Green to Junior Transition:

A clear pathway allows young players to progress, starting from Hot Shots (Blue, Red, Orange, Green groups) and moving into Junior levels based on ability. Options include: staying in the Green group longer with additional training, training with Juniors and playing Junior Interclub, or training with both Juniors and Seniors to compete in Senior competitions for Taieri.

Junior to Senior Transition:

Junior players in Interclub Divisions 1 or 2 are invited to train with our Thursday evening group if they meet the skill level or participate in casual sessions organised by the Junior Coordinators. The goal is to prepare juniors for competition in Senior Divisions 1 or 2 or Mixed Doubles Division 1 in future seasons, from the age of 19+ (or younger if their level is suitable).
