Salamanca Singles Tournament 25-26 January 2025

Entries are open for the 2025 Salamanca Tennis Tournament. This singles tournament will be held on Saturday the 25th (Men) and Sunday the 26th (Women) of January 2025. This tournament will be open to all senior Wellington club members. In particular it will help interclub players prepare for the interclub season that starts the following week. This tournament follows the successful Mens tournament held in January 2024.

Entries will be on a 'first come first serve' basis (excuse the pun...). With only 16 spots available for each day, spots may fill up quickly so get your entry in ASAP.

We will operate a standard tournament format with a plate so everyone is guaranteed 2 matches. Players will play a maximum of 4 matches and a gap of at least half an hour between them.

To complete the tournament on the 2 Salamanca courts during one day, we will play a variation of the 'fast fours' format (see below).

Other key information on the tournament is outlined below:

Timing

  • It will start at 9am sharp and will finish before 5pm.
  • Entries will close at 6pm on Thursday the 23rd of January(Men) or Friday the 24th (Women) or earlier if all spots are filled beforehand.
  • The draw will be published for both days  on Friday the 24th and may be updated during the day. The draw will indicate the start time of each player's first match. Players should arrive half an hour before this start time. Players arriving late will be defaulted. There will be up to 22 matches in the day so we have not time for delays.
  • The draw will be a ranked draw based on Top Dog. Players not in Top Dog will be ranked under those that are.
  • There will be three sections of the draw:
  1. One half starting at 9am and going to 11.30am approximately.
  2. The other half starting at 11.30am approximately and going to 2pm approximately.
  3. Semi-finals and finals of the main and plate draw go from 2pm approximately to the end (5pm at the latest).
  • It will be cancelled if the weather is bad.

Format

The "Fast Fours" format to be used for the tournament will vary the standard match format as follows:

  • Best of three sets. The first two sets are the first to 4 games, with a standard tiebreak at 3 games all, if needed.
  • The third set, if needed, is a super tie break.
  • All deuces are dead, with the receiver deciding what side to receive.
  • Players will have a 5-minute warm up for each match.
