August 2025
Hi Everyone.
Spring is almost here, which means we’re kicking into tennis season.
AGM
The Club’s AGM was held last week. You would have all received the President’s Report that was sent out.
Key to the AGM was the passing of the new constitution. This has brought us up to date with the Incorporated Societies Act requirements. Thanks to Tennis NZ and to our Committee for the work put in to make this happen.
Roles at the club were also confirmed for the next 12 months.
President - Mick Hussey
Secretary - Niki Mills
Treasurer - Don Holloway
Committee - Doug Robinson, Phil Singlewood
Administrator - Lucy Mills
Junior Tennis - Brendan Kay
Open Court
We have an Open Court session this Sunday, August 17, at 11am. It is for those new to tennis, never been to the club before or haven’t swung a racquet in ages, come along for a hit, games, meet people and enjoy some munchies.
All ages and abilities are welcome. If you know people that would be keen, let them know. Members can come along too for a hit.
Court Maintenance
Courts 2, 3 & 4 will be groomed on Thursday August 28th.
This will take 4-5 hours and will end with the spraying of the courts.
It is recommended to stay off them for the rest of the day.
For those wanting to play, the hard courts will be available.
Working Bee
We will have our working bee on Sunday August 31 from 9am.
It’d be great to have a hand to tidy up the grounds and clubrooms in time for the start of the season.
The work done over the past 2 years has been amazing and makes each one of these easier each time.
Club Open Day
Our Club Open Day will be held on Sunday September 7th, from 11am to 1:30pm.
It is a great way to get the tennis vibes happening.
We’ll have Pete Hoyland from Kiwi Tennis there to talk about coaching options, he’ll run some activities for the kids and adults too. There will be a BBQ and specials for new members.
Come on down for a fun day.
Interclub Tennis
Time to start planning for interclub tennis. We will be assembling teams from late September to be submitted in mid October to Waikato Tennis.
More information will be coming out for this for both the junior and senior interclub leagues.
Professional Tennis The Bayleys Open ITF World Tennis Tour Tournament is being held in Hamilton from 8–14 December. This is a good opportunity to get to see local and international pro players compete for ATP & WTA Tour points. All matches will be at the Waikato Tennis Centre.
Book A Court
Book A Court. This is a facility to give all casual, non-members the opportunity to hire a court for play. Bookings are made on our website.
Once the payment has been made a code is provided for them to enter via the new gate.
The keypad on the padlock is connected to the site and access is granted for that booked time.
For members, not a lot changes. Access to the club is still via the main gate with the key. We have blocked out our regular playing sessions for coaching, midweek tennis, senior club day, junior club night and interclub so casual play does not clash.
If you haven’t already, click on ‘register’. Your email address will link to your membership so that when you do book there is no charge. Being registered on our website guarantees you will receive all notifications and newsletters.
Main Gate
A reminder to shut the main gate behind you on your way out after playing. It’s easy to forget sometimes but is important to keep the courts and clubrooms secure.
