On 31 May 2023, we were all shocked to learn that our coach Harry Gotze had died in a fatal car accident. Since his arrival in September 2022, Harry was not only a coach to many at Masterton Tennis and elsewhere in the Wairarapa region, he was a valued member of our club, played in our pre-Xmas interclub team and participated in our Saturday club doubles sessions, even though he was far too good for us and was rarely challenged by even our best shots. Most of all, he was a kind, patient and thoughtful person who had a wry sense of humour and we miss him very much. Many of our members, young and old, attended his funeral in Carterton on 7 June to pay our respects and learn more about the life of Harry before he came to Masterton. It was a sad, moving and meaningful experience.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his sister Petro, his mother Drieka, his good friend Liz and his friend/employer Jacob Emery at Red Clay Tennis for the tragic loss of a beloved brother, son, friend and colleague. Our sincere condolences to all who knew him and will miss him dearly.
