Junior Interclub Info

Interclub is great fun for the juniors and a fantastic way to improve their tennis and match play. If you are not sure your child is at interclub level or have any questions have a chat to the coach. We encourage our juniors to give it a go, even if they have never played interclub before.
Coaching will be on Wednesdays and will start first week of term 4 once teams are confirmed.
- To play interclub you must be a fully paid up member of Mt Albert Tennis Club and have paid the additional Junior Interclub Fee.
- Interclub fee is $100 per term (in addition to the Club membership). This includes entry, balls and 1 hour coaching sessions for 8 weeks with 1 coach per team. This is a special rate for interclub players and half the normal cost of squad coaching.
- Once you are confirmed in a team you will be sent a link for payment.
Key information and what’s involved:
- Boys and girls are in separate teams (although 2 girls can play in boys teams if needed).
- The grades are based on age as at end April 2026 and range from 10 years & under to 18 years & under.
- Open grade players can elect to play in either the Saturday 8.30 or Sunday 9.00 competitions. Saturday morning games are not played at Mt Albert due to club coaching. Some Sunday games are played at "home" (Mt Albert) (Beginners see below)
- We are a small club, so sometimes we have to ask people to change from their preferred day - the more information on availability you give us at enrollment the better.
- Teams have 4-6 players. The club coaches will select the teams.
- Each week, 4 players need to play (each has a game of singles & doubles), so if you have 5 or 6 players, you should get at least one weekend off during the competition.
- Teams usually get 2 courts to use, so fixtures will take about 1 ½ -2 ½ hours.
- Interclub training: tbc
- Players do the scoring, but each team needs an adult to help coordinate the team. This does not involve much - just making sure you have a full team each week, and entering the scores into the Auckland Tennis website after the game.
- If you are playing for school – the school competitions are usually Saturday – so if you want to do interclub as well - can you let us know and select to play on a Sunday.
New to interclub?
- The beginner grades give the kids a chance to play against other beginners. Most are still learning to serve at this level, but they improve quickly by playing the competitive games.
- Players are eligible for beginner grades if they have played for less than 2 competitions (pre-Christmas and post-Christmas = 2 competitions), and are 13 or under.
- Beginners play on Saturdays at 12.30, or Sunday at 9.00, first to 6 games.
- If you are wondering if you are at interclub level – club coach can give you guidance.
