MINI-SHOTS BLUE STAGE (3-5 YEARS — 45 MINUTES — MINI COURT)

 

The Blue Stage is a tennis programme that serves as a "launch pad" for children's tennis careers. At this stage, children acquire new skills quickly and build a solid foundation for further development. Children learn simple balance and movement skills, basic racket and ball skills and simple stroke patterns and group structure through game-based learning. It is a fun and easy course that takes place in a friendly and welcoming environment. Parental participation is very welcome at this age group.

Court size: modified
Tennis ball: soft ball (15% pressure)
Recommended racket size: 19-21 inches.

 

HOT SHOTS - RED STAGE (6-8 YEARS — 60 MINUTES — 1/2 COURT)

In the Red Stage, children play with bigger, low-pressure balls and on a modified court size, which allows them to develop their tennis skills properly. The emphasis is on learning in a fun way so that children have all the tools they need to continue and enjoy tennis in the future. Players will learn through the programme:

  • Moving in different directions, stopping and balance
  • Proper contact and easy control of the ball
  • Rally skills learned through throwing, kicking and catching.
  • Basic strokes - forehand, backhand, volley, ball checks
  • Group structure and game-based learning
  • Coordinated running and different jumping techniques
  • Simple grip and contact points
  • Introducing the serve
  • Balls exchanged at short distances
  • How to win a point and where to stand

Court size: 3 m × 8.23 m or 6 m × 10.97 m
Tennis ball: red ball (25% pressure)
Recommended racket size: 21-23 in.

HOT SHOTS -ORANGE STAGE (8-10 YEARS — 60 MINUTES — 3/4 COURT)

In the orange phase, children play with medium-pressure tennis balls that bounce lower and move slower to allow them to hold longer rallies. Children learn a variety of skills:

  • Fast and efficient movement
  • Coordinated rotation and the use of both hands
  • Effective stroke movements, including the use of rotation
  • Ball rally from the back line, including diagonally
  • Well-balanced serving with a higher contact point and a consistent stroke rate
  • Specific and customised footwork patterns
  • Polished stroke movements, including the use of rotation
  • Modifying the shot to direct the ball and hit it to different areas of the field
  • Better throwing technique and grip when serving
  • Tactical awareness of the opponent

Court size: 6.4 m × 18.29 m
Tennis ball: orange ball (50% pressure)
Recommended racket size: 23-25 inches.

HOT SHOTS -GREEN STAGE (9-11 YEARS — 60 MINUTES — FULL COURT)

Green Stage is an intermediate and advanced level tennis programme for children aged 9 to 11. Children focus on developing the following skills:

  • Tactical awareness of the opponent
  • Basic to excellent movement to, from and around the ball
  • Coordinated use of all parts of the body
  • Basic to custom foot stances
  • Basic full-field strategy and tactics
  • Consistency of shots and ball changes
  • Honing your serving techniques, including learning the second serve
  • Strokes based on deliberately intended shots and the flight, rotation and change of speed of the ball.

Court size: 10.97 m × 23.78 m (full court)
Tennis ball: green ball (75% pressure)
Recommended racket size: 25-27 inches.

SUPER SHOTS - YELLOW STAGE (12+ YEARS — 60 MINUTES — FULL COURT)

Yellow Stage Tennis is the next step up from the beginner level of the Children's Tennis School, using the standard yellow tennis ball, and is an intermediate and advanced level tennis teaching programme for children. Players are exposed to a full range of technical and tactical options while being encouraged to develop their own playing style and game plan. Everything is linked to match play situations, creating an environment where children can push the limits of their abilities. Players refine their skills by focusing:

  • Excellent movement to, from and around the ball
  • Coordinated use of all parts of the body
  • All strokes covered - forehand, backhand, volley, serve
  • Tennis etiquette with basic singles and doubles strategies
  • Game-based scoring and working in teams

Court size: 10.97 m × 23.78 m (full court)
Tennis ball: yellow ball (100% pressure)
Recommended racket size: 27 inches.
