The first weekend of the Wānaka Tennis Club Championships was held on 7-8 March, featuring the Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles competitions. It was a wonderful weekend of tennis played in great spirit, with many club members coming along to watch and enjoy the excellent matches on display.
The Men's Doubles final was a thrilling contest, with Alistair Hunt and Lochie Hunt defeating David Lawn and Harry James in a match that went to a third-set super tiebreak.
The Women's Doubles final was just as dramatic, also going to a third-set super tiebreak, with Santi Unsamrong and Sally Currie edging out Carolyn Oakley-Brown and Jacque Bates 12-10 in a very close match.
On Sunday, the Mixed Doubles title was claimed by Alistair Hunt and Santi Unsamrong, who defeated Jules Mumford and Carolyn Oakley-Brown in straight sets.
The standard of tennis across the weekend was excellent, and the atmosphere around the club was fantastic. A big thank you to everyone who entered and helped make the event such a special part of the club calendar.
