There was some great tennis played over the weekend of 20 and 21 April. Wanaka was hosting teams from Southland, North Otago and South Canterbury for the annual quadrangular over 50s tournament. Teams of 6 men and 6 women played doubles and mixed doubles and many of the matches proved to be tight encounters, with quite a few matches being decided in a tie breaker. Both South Canterbury and North Otago proved too strong for the Wanaka team on Saturday, with Southland faring similarly. It all boiled down to the match between Canterbury and Otago on Sunday morning to decide the overall winner. As the result was a tie at 6-6, a countback had to be made and Canterbury emerged victorious by one match. Wanaka beat Southland 8-4 on Sunday morning and came third overall.
Wanaka President Jeanette Hatten presented South Canterbury captain Bruce Eggleton with the trophy.
