2022 Midweek RoseBowl Tournament

The Midweek section held its 2022 RoseBowl Tournament on Tuesday 15 March, after its postponement for a week due to wet courts on the previous Tuesday.    The weather was cool and overcast with a southerly wind and a very brief light shower early on but the matches were not disrupted.   Because of the postponement, there were some entry withdrawals but also some replacement entries so the tournament was contested by eight pairs,

Each pair was assigned a positive, zero or negative handicap with the objctive of winning each of three matches of first to 31, using table tennis scoring.   After three matches had been played by every team, two pairs, Royston Skucek with Joss Prior, and Pip Groom with Mette Kieler, had three wins and therefore contested the final of the RoseBowl trophy.   This was won in a tight final match by Royston and Joss, who thereby won the RoseBowl.

The Murgatroyd Plate is tradionally contested for by those pairs having won 2 out of their 3 initial matches.    However, there was only one pair with that record, being Richard Yuschik with Peter Browne, who thereby won the Plate.

Altogether a day of good tennis for all participants.
