On Sunday 20 September, Karori United, Karori Lawn and Talavera Tennis Clubs held an all day pre-interclub competition tournament for the clubs' juniors, using the courts at all three venues. Blessed with very good weather, the tournament had 45 entries for both singles and doubles events, graded gold, silver and bronze depending on the Match Hub grading of the juniors playing in each event. The total matches played were 76, a tribute to the Tournament Director Mark Storey, for scheduling all these between 0830 and 1730 hours over 8 courts.
Because of the number of entries, the early singles matches (held in the morning) were first to 5 games with a tie-break at 4-all. Singles finals and all doubles (held in the afternoon) were first to 7 games with a tie-break at 6-all. KUTC held a BBQ in the afternoon to feed the multitude, which included many parents who came to watch the matches.
The day was judged by the participants and parents to be have been very successful and it is likely to be held again in 2021. Grateful thanks are due to Karori Lawn and Talavera clubs for their particpation and co-operation.
