Coaching by One Community Tennis
Coaching this season will be delivered by One Community Tennis Coaching. Our qualified coaches run fun sessions while teaching the core skills of tennis. It's a great way to teach kids the game and advance their capabilities.
Junior Club Afternoon
Our Junior tennis programme runs through Term 4 - 2024 and Term 1 - 2025 (dates to be confirmed). It pauses over the summer holidays.
The programme is held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (beginning in week 1 of Term 4) and is run by our qualified coaching team. Juniors are organised into age group/capability and do a range of drills and fun games. Time slots depend on the group and age groups are indicative, as ability is also taken into account.
Red stage Group 1 (5 yr olds): Wed 3.30-4.15pm
Red stage Group 2 (6 yr olds) Wed 4.15-5.00pm
Orange stage 1 (7-8 yr olds) Wed 5.00-6.00pm
Orange stage 2 (9-10 yr olds) Wed 6.00-7.00pm
Green stage (11-12 yr olds) Tue 3.45-4.45pm
Yellow stage (13 and up) Tues 4.45-5.45pm
The programme also includes:
- the opportunity to play interclub on Sunday mornings, and
- further coaching if desired - check out our coaching link on the website
Cancellations
If a Tuesday or Wednesday session is cancelled due to wet weather, we will notify participants as soon as we can to let them know by email and also through posts on our Facebook page.
Inter-club competition
Juniors are encouraged to sign-up for the Junior inter-club competition run by Tennis Central. Games are played against other local clubs in singles and doubles formats, with play at multiple different grades.
Matches are played on Sunday mornings over summer, either at NPTC or at other Wellington based clubs.
The first Interclub match of the season is on 13 October with the last scheduled week being the 8th of December. If you are interested in playing interclub please let us know. Our thanks to the parent volunteers who manage the teams.
Private 1:1 coaching is available to any child who is a member of our club. There are additional costs for this coaching. Please let us know if you are interested.
Parent help
Parental support for our juniors is as important for the junior and parents themselves, as it is for the club. The Wednesday afternoons, interclub teams, and the other fun activities, as well as the general running of the club all require voluntary support. We have the most competitive membership subscriptions in the region and this is largely as a result of the work undertaken by volunteers who help run the club and its events.
