AGM 2024

The Wanaka Tennis Club held its AGM on 28 September 2024. There were 33 members present, including the club's committee members.

Club President Jeanette Hatten welcomed all and also read out the apologies from members who could not be present. Following this, the minutes from the last annual general meeting were adopted, followed by the president's report. The president gave an overview of the club's activities over the last year and thanked the committee members and others for the time they volunteered for the club. The report was well received by the meeting and was moved and seconded for acceptance.

Treasurer Geoff Hatten presented his report for the 23/24 season and the financial statements. The membership of the club has increased further over the last year and the club is in a financially sound position, with a $ 30,000 dollar cash surplus. Non-routine expenditures over the year were mainly for the outside and inside painting of the clubhouse. More work, including a replacement of the carpets is planned for the coming year. He also mentioned that the contractor had paid $ 35,000 as compensation for unsatisfactory work in the resurfacing of courts 3 and 4. It was decided to put these funds aside for future court replacement. A question from the floor about the possibility of  funding additional lighting was asked. In reply it was stated that the club has indeed looked into possible options for additional lighting. However, the cost of these would well exceed the funds received from the contractor. However, the discussion is still ongoing and should the club go ahead, additional grants would be sought.

The discussion was followed by the election of office bearers for the coming year. Two committee members, Ben Fahy and Richard Anderson did not stand for reelection. New candidates for the committee were Danielle du Plooy and Victoria Heymell. All other office holders offered themselves for election for another year and the new committee is as follows:

President – Jeanette Hatten
Honorary Treasurer – Geoff Hatten
Honorary Secretary – Jules Mumford
Past President: - John Lyness

Committee Members –
Steve May
Jan Grant
George Heymell
Nikolaus Konlechner
Charlie James
Will Lamb
Alice MacTaggart
Victoria Heymell
Danielle Du Plooy

Following the election, it was proposed to award Steve May life membership for his outstanding services to the club over many years. The proposal was unanimously adopted by all present.

Under general business, the meeting resolved that the club should re-register as required by the Incorporate Societies Act of 2022.

At the end of the meeting, Danielle du Plooy and Ollie Scott were presented with the George Morris trophy for their win in the season opening competition.
