We have had a couple of committee meetings since our last newsletter so a few things to update you all on.
Club Champs
We will shortly be sending round information about this year's club champs. This a club tournament open to all members and is a great way to keep the competitive juices flowing, albeit in a fun atmosphere. We have booked some indoor courts at the Renouf (using the levy we get as a result of the affiliation fees we pay to Tennis Capital-Coast) for the weekend of 2/3 May. We have two courts all day from 10am each day.
The plan is to run the Men's champs on two levels: 'Interclub' (Prem and Tecnifibre 1&2 teams) and 'Social' (Men's 5&6 teams and social night players). There will be men's and women's singles and doubles draws. We plan to do entries a bit differently this time by entering you all automatically! If you can't make a match you're drawn in, then the game will default. If you are keen to play, please contact Shane - shanebinnie@gmail.com.
Early stage matches will need to be played ahead of the weekend of 2/3 May, which players can arrange in their own time, but we're running the later rounds, including finals over that weekend. And hopefully get a few beers in for those of who are cheering them on!
Tennis Capital Coast - Club forum
Shane, Steph and Aidan attended the Tennis Capital Coast (formerly Tennis Central) Club forum in mid-March. This is a great opportunity to connect with other clubs and find out how they are doing, what challenges they are facing and what solutions they have come up with to address these. As we all know, members are the lifeblood of any club, and one of the main topics we discussed is how to encourage people who get coaching at the club to become members. This is something we will be turning our minds to in the coming months.

Interclub has now pretty much wrapped up for the season. Congratulations to Miramar 1 Prem 2 Men's team were unbeaten and will be back up in Prem 1next season. - Miramar/Wellington has 1 round to play to move from 4th to 3rd
Coaching
As you're all now aware, Andy is sadly pulling back from coaching at Miramar due to family reasons. Term 1 coaching has now wrapped up and we will be shortly able to confirm what we will be able to offer in Term 2. Sadly we were unable to offer a holiday programme this past holiday.
We'd like to give a big shout out to all the assistant coaches who have done a great job helping out: Liam, Monty, Sophia. We'll be seeing more of them in Term 2. In the meantime, we are starting the process of looking for a new head coach. Not an easy undertaking as there is a serious lack of coaches in NZ at the moment.
Winter Tennis
Social sessions continue throughout the year - Wednesdays at 7pm and Saturday (a change from Sunday during Summer) at 2pm. This is a great way to keep hitting, all are welcome, any queries contact Callum - callumamscott@gmail.com
There is also a Winter Mixed Interclub competition that starts on June 21st. Play is fortnightly on Sundays at 1pm, played at clubs in the region. Two men and two women, 2 mixed matches and 1 doubles each. If you are interested please contact Steph - stephaniewalker@xtra.co.nz
Masters Tournament
If you are 35+ you can enter the 2026 Fairmont Estate Wellington Seniors/Vets Doubles tournament on 30-31 May. See link for more details.
And finally...
We'd like to make a big shout out to Eddy Sykes who has been helping coach the Men's 5 and 6 teams. We will be looking for volunteers to take over and help with these teams and the social players from time to time.
We're also looking for people who could mow the grass, and anyone who has a working dishwasher they would like to donate to the club (or might be able to figure out what's wrong with our current one).
And of course we are always keen to hear from anyone who may have some time to help out with the Committee and the running of the club. Any help, no matter what role or how few hours, is always really appreciated. In particular, we'd really appreciate it if there's anyone out there who could help with club communications and event planning. Please get in touch if you think you could spare some time and would like to chat about how you could help out.
From your committee
