Spring has sprung and so has the activity down at the club! We held our AGM in August and then a very successful Love Tennis Open Day in mid September. It was great to see so many people at the club for Love Tennis, either trying tennis out for the first time, or picking up a racket again after a while. The sun was shining and the courts were full all day. A big thank you to all the club members who volunteered on the day to make it such a success. And a big thank you also to Cameron Harrison butchers in Seatoun for providing the delicious sausages for the BBQ.

Daylight savings has now kicked in and the new tennis season is now on our doorstep! We have plenty in store for our members and the wider community!

Tennis Coaching

As many of you will have seen from our recent email, we are very excited to announce that One Community Tennis will be running their after school junior tennis programme at Miramar Tennis Club on Monday afternoons.

The junior development programme – based on what many of you will know as Hot Shots – has been very successful at other clubs across Wellington and we are expecting it to attract a lot of interest at Miramar.

Bookings are now open for the following 10 week programmes starting Monday 12th October (Day 1 of term 4):

• Red Development Programme (5-8 year old) 3.30pm - 4.15pm
• Orange Development Programme (8-10 year olds) 4.15pm - 5.00pm
• Green Development Programmes (9+ year olds) 5.00pm - 6.00pm

Family Community Play

We will also be running Family Community Play again on Friday afternoons from 4-5pm. This offers the perfect opportunity for the children and their caregivers to have fun using the modified club equipment and learning the basics from some seasoned members. Run over Term 4(2026) and Term 1(2027).

Community Play is free to members and $6 for non-members. Please head to our website to book: Clubspark / Miramar Tennis Club / Family Community Play

Private Coaching

Shane (our Club President and Premier 1 player) will continue to offer private lessons which can be booked by contacting him directly. Please see our website for more information: Clubspark / Miramar Tennis Club / Private Tennis Coaching

Pub Quiz Fundraiser

We are partnering with The Little Sprig in Seatoun to run a club fundraiser. This will be held on Monday 12th October at 6:00pm. It’s a great atmosphere at the Sprig but as it is a relatively small venue numbers will be limited. It would be great to have as many members and non members join a table for a casual drink and a bit of quiz fun. More information and booking can be found here

Kate Winslet, Andy Circus and Stephen Colbert have been frequenting the pub recently so you never know who you might be rubbing shoulders with!

Interclub

The draws are now out for the pre-Christmas interclub tournaments, and pre-season training is well underway. The Competitions kick off on 17 October and we wish all the teams the best of luck.

Membership

We appreciate all our members and were one of only a very few clubs in the region who saw an increase in membership numbers last season. We will be aiming to continue that momentum and continue to help build a welcoming environment for all. As a gentle reminder please don’t forget to renew your membership as it rolls around as it all goes towards the basics to keep the club running such as insurance, electricity and council fees.
