Newsletter December 2025

The new season is very much underway (when the weather lets us!). We're already coming to the end of pre-Xmas Interclub and would like to say a big thank you to NZ Community Trust for the funding we received for the interclub uniform which is looking great on our Senior teams.

Term 4 coaching has been going strong, including the new junior club sessions on Friday afternoons.

And we also have a couple of committee meetings to update you on that we have had since our AGM at the end of August.

Upcoming club events - SAVE THE DATES!

14 December 2025 We are going to run a fun, everyone welcome, club tournament and social day on Sunday 14 December. We would love to see as many of you there as possible - all stages and ages are welcome. We'll run some fun hits and a little tournament of some form, as well as getting the barbeque fired up - with sponsorship very kindly offered from Tubman Heating - and just having a tennis-filled day at the club.

25 January 2026 We are also planning a Miramar Tennis Club open day for the end of January when everyone will, of course, be in the thick of Aussie Open fever! Again, we'll send more info nearer the time, but save the date!

Coaching

As we near the end of year we acknowledge the great work and positive energy Andy Wheeler and his team at Future Aces bring to the club. It is so encouraging to see the increase in coaching sessions available for all ages and stages.

You should have a separate email with the latest news from Future Aces, but more information is available at

Coaching Info . Or contact Andy directly: EmailAndy

New constitution

Following the passing of our new club constitution at the AGM, we are also now officially reregistered as an incorporated society under the new Incorporated Societies Act 2022. One thing worth highlighting is that a junior is now defined as 17 and under and a junior member will need a parent/guardian signed up as a (non-voting) member (unless, of course, they are already an adult member in their own right). This a slight change to how things were done previously as juniors included 18 yr olds to align with Tennis Capital-Coast's age brackets for affiliation fees.

While things otherwise won't look too much different to you on a day-to-day basis, we will benefit from being more integrated with Tennis Capital-Coast and Tennis NZ and from the modernisation of some key governance and administration processes such as financial reporting and dispute resolution.

You can see the new constitution and minutes from the AGM on our website: Reports

Please pay your subs!

It goes without saying that the membership subs we receive from you all are the backbone of what keeps this club going financially. So please pay your subs when you receive the reminder! This is particularly important for those of you that are playing interclub too. If you play and you're not paid up, your team could lose points as you need to be affiliated to play.

Tribute to Brendan O'Connor - A Cherished Member of the Miramar Tennis Club

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Brendan O'Connor, a much-loved former member of our club. Brendan's legacy at Miramar Tennis Club is one of dedication, talent, and warmth.

Brendan was not only a high-performance player but also a passionate coach who inspired many. In 1999, he convinced his older twin brothers, Michael and Marcus, to join Miramar. Within a year, their team had earned a promotion to Regional One. The trio continued to represent the club with distinction, and even after the twins retired in 2004, Brendan remained a key figure in Regional One competition for several years.

During this time, Brendan also launched a successful Club Head Coach business at the Club, further strengthening his impact on the club and its members.

Brendan will be remembered not just for his skill on the court, but for his friendly, good-natured personality that made him a beloved part of our community. Our sincere condolences to his family and especially to Mike and Antoinette who are still current members.

Forever in our hearts, Brendan.
