Miramar Tennis Club Newsletter - August 2024
Despite the chilly weather, it is great to see members making the most of some of the lovely calm and sunny days we have been getting. Mid winter interclub, as well as business house competitions, are underway and a few masters tournaments are approaching.
Soon enough the days will start to get a little longer and we’ll be into spring in no time.
Annual General Meeting
The AGM will be held this Saturday 17th August in the Miramar clubrooms. We really encourage members to come along to this as it’s an important opportunity for members to engage in how the club is run.
We’ll run the usual club day from 1pm and then hold the AGM at 3pm, upstairs in the clubrooms. The bar will be open and we’ll get some pizzas in too.
A video link to the AGM can be found here: Teams video link

Coaching update
Term 3 is underway, and Blake is running all the usual programmes including junior hotshots, adult active sessions and individual or group coaching. Please check the website for details.
Love Tennis
Another reminder for an important date for your diaries - the Love Tennis club open day will be on Sunday 8th September from 10am-2pm. This is a great opportunity to open the club to the wider community and encourage people to come along and give tennis a go. And if that wasn’t enough incentive, everyone who comes along will go into a draw to win a trip to the Australian Open next year!
It’s always a fun day with lots of activities, so spread the word. We always need willing helpers to help run the day so if you are free to help out, even just for an hour or two, please email Steph Walker at treasurermiramartenis@gmail.com
Casual play
The casual book-a-court facility for non-members is up and running again, through the court booking page. This enables non-members to book and pay for court hire. They will need to register on our website when they book for the first time. Please spread the word on this. As we head into spring we will also update signage around the club.
Renouf Tennis Centre Club Day - Saturday the 28th September, 12noon to 3pm
The club has the ability to book indoor courts each year as part of our affiliation with Wellington Tennis. Earlier in the year we had over 20 people mix and match and play some highly competitive yet fun games. We will be holding the next indoor club day on Saturday 28th September 12noon till 3pm. There is always a fun twist - so everyone is in to win.
Shout out for committee members
We are always on the lookout for members who can help out in any way with running the club or with odd jobs. Whether that’s a formal role on the committee or you just have a skill that could be useful to the club in any way. As committee members, we are all passionate about making Miramar Tennis Club a great place to visit, play tennis and socialise, but as the saying goes, many hands make light work!
Suggestions and proactive ideas are always welcomed. Our next committee meeting will be on Monday 2 September at 7pm.
Deck replacement
The plans for the deck replacement have now been submitted to the Council for building consent, and we will start looking for funding for this process. This is a significant step forward on this important part of our asset and maintenance plan, and we’d like to give a big shout out to Doug Thornton for managing the process and navigating the various steps required.
Website updates
We will soon be adding a “Club Calendar” page to our website. This will provide members with information about events and key dates coming up during the year ahead. This will include useful info such as interclub dates, along with plans for club events such as social events and club events at the Renouf Tennis Centre.
Tennis Balls
The club is selling cans of Technifibre Xone tennis balls for $19.
Please get in touch with Neil Wong to purchase a few cans (minimum of two). They now cost close to $30 at the Renouf Tennis Centre Pro Shop, so this is a steal. 0211333081, corneiliuswong@hotmail.com
