Coaching
We are delighted to welcome Blake Smith to the club, who will be providing coaching services over the 23/24 tennis season. Please head to our website for the coaching courses currently on offer.
We have the new junior HotShots programme available to book, as well as a beginner adult group lesson.
Unlike previous years, all coaching is to be booked via our club website. Link to the club coaching page
If there is not a suitable day or time available for you, please reach out as we are actively looking to provide more sessions as demand dictates. For example, we are looking at running further HotShots or group lessons (both junior and senior) on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday and will start to fill sessions around those days.
Community Play
Come down on a Friday after school for parent and member led community play. Play is open to all primary school aged kids (5-12). It is suitable for absolute beginners as well as those with some experience already. The sessions will run from 4-5pm each Friday. Parents are encouraged to stay and get involved too! Tell all your friends and come on down. There will be a small $5 charge for non-members.
Membership
We have a range of membership options available to suit everyone. Please make sure you renew your membership to allow access to the club and facilities, including interclub.
Social Tennis
Managed by Neil Wong, social tennis on Wednesdays from 7pm has been getting more and more popular. We welcome players of beginner to intermediate level. It's a great way to get started. From time to time we will also run fun coaching style group lessons for this group.
New Smart Gates
We are excited to announce that we are in the process of installing new smart gates at the club entrance gates. This gate will allow members to access the club using their smartphone and a pin code. It also allows the club to provide further utilisation of the courts and club rooms using web-based technology.
We are proud to have been identified by Tennis New Zealand and partner with them, to help deliver this to our club.
There will be some learnings for all of us as we transition and we hope to make it as smooth as possible. The main message is to continue in the habit of booking all courts online. Soon the current club card system will phase out and our membership system will be fully integrated with the gates and security system.
Interclub
Interclub has just got underway. After a very successful season last year winning 5 championships and the Premier 1 Mens title, all teams will be back in action in the pre-Christmas competition.
We offer a variety of different teams for tennis club members, catering for all age groups and skills.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please don't hesitate to contact us if you are looking to get back into competitive play.
Committee meetings
The next committee meeting is on Monday 16th October at 7pm. Thank you to those who currently help out, including our interclub managers and coordinators. As always, many hands make light work and we welcome anyone putting their hand up for the odd job here and there (these can range from administration to lawn mowing).
One area I would be interested in gaining support in is our insurance space. If there are any industry experts out there, we'd love to have your input.
Final note
Spring is typically a mix of beautiful still days and howling northerlies, which is more than frustrating for any tennis. As the days grow longer and more and more people are down at the courts remember to book online to avoid any confusion and remember to say hello and be respectful to others. We have a friendly and welcoming club culture and we want to continue to encourage that.
