Each year, Kilbirnie Tennis Club runs a Senior Club Championships tournament. The tournament is a great opportunity for club members to play in friendly competitions against others with different skill levels. The winners of the competitions will be recorded as the club champions for that year.

Dates

The tournament is usually held over a weekend in late March or early April. The tournament might be delayed by weather. Singles competitions will usually be held on one day of the weekend and doubles on the other. 

Club members will be emailed details of the tournament about a month beforehand including:

Who can enter

All senior club members and juniors who play in senior interclub competitions or junior A-Grade interclub competitions. 

How to enter

Register online at Tournament Software. Search for Kilbirnie Senior Club Championships under tournaments and enter the tournament.

If you haven't used Tournament Software before, you will need to create a Tournament Software account for yourself (and each of your children). See How to Register for Club Champs . You will be able to use your account to enter other tournaments in New Zealand in the future.

For doubles competitions, state the name of your doubles partner or select partner wanted to have one chosen for you. Your partner will also need to register and select you as their partner to confirm the partnership (if you haven't selected partner wanted). When entering your partner, just enter their first name and surname. There is no need to enter your partner’s member Id.

Cost

There is no charge for club members to enter this tournament.

Draw

The draw will be published online a day or two before the tournament. The link to the draw will be sent by email to the competitors. The draw will include competitors, times of play, and courts (these may also be assigned on the day). Any adjustments to the rules will be included with the draw.

The draw is likely to be formed so up to eight seeded players/teams have a separate stream to the quarter-finals. Other players/teams are randomly placed.

Competition Format

• Single Elimination/Consolation Format . Most competitions will be a series of elimination rounds. Winners of each round will advance in the competition and compete for the championship. First match losers however will compete for a consolation title in a separate single elimination competition.
• Matches are expected to take about an hour. A sudden death-deuce rule may be added if there are time constraints.
• The first 5 minutes of each match may be used for warm-up.
• Matches will be played according to the rules below.
• The organisers reserve the right to modify the match formats depending on the number of entrants and to meet time constraints.

Match Format

• A match is won when a team wins 9 games with a 2–game lead.
• A tie-break takes place if the game score reaches 8–8.
• The tie break is won by the first player/team to win 7 points or more with a 2–point margin.
• Standard game rules apply. A sudden death-deuce rule may be added if there are time constraints.
• For finals, competitors will have the option of playing two standard sets. If the set score is 1 – 1 after two sets, the third set will be a super-tie-break (first to 10 points).

Champ of Champs

Winners of the singles competitions will also be entered into the Tennis Central Champ of Champs competition usually held in May at the Renouf Tennis Centre.

Wet Weather

If wet weather is expected, the tournament may be delayed. Cancellation notices will be posted here.

Match Hub

The results of the tournament may update the national singles and/or doubles rankings of the competitors. A Match Hub record will be created if a competitor does not have one.

Food/water

Remember to bring your own water bottle and snacks. There may be a sausage sizzle during the tournament.

Awards

Winners will be recorded on Club Champions Board in the clubhouse. Winners will also receive a trophy with their name(s) engraved on it – this may be held by the winner for the following year. Winners and runners up will also receive certificates and will be posted on the Honours page of the club website. Prize-giving likely to be held in June
