Upcoming Events at the Club

The Papamoa Tennis Senior Club Champs are fast approaching

This is the part of our season where the tennis is a little less casual than usual and we battle away to find who are the overall champions across the various categories. Whilst the tennis is, of course,  competitive we are still focussed on participation - we want as many entries as possible. Even if you have no expectations of glory please get in the swing of positivity by entering.

This year we are modernising the entry process online by clicking on the links below. Of course you can still enter the old fashioned way by just talking to Daren O'Meara on 022 6066 123.

Mixed Doubles - Saturday March 25  - enter here Mixed Doubles Club Champs. Of course if you do not yet have a partner to play with, do not just pass on the idea... Contact Daren O'Meara and he will try to find you a suitable partner.

Ladies and Men's Doubles - Saturday April 1st -  enter here Doubles Club Champs. As with the mixed doubles if you want to play and don't yet have a partner contact Daren - We Want people Playing!!

Singles - April 15 (reserve day April 16) - enter here Singles Club Champs

On each of the three days you can expect to play three matches. Keep winning and you will find yourself in the Open final - lose in the first round you will go into the plate, lose in the second round and you will go into the super plate / bowl round. At the conclusion of each day we expect to find our finalists for each division.

On April Saturday April 29th we will hold a Grand Finals Day. On this day all the best players in each division will play their finals matches. Naturally we hope to attract a packed gallery of senior players who did not make it through, together with friends, family etc to support the finalists in their quest for Club glory.

Shave 4 a Cure Fundraiser.

Recently we received the following email from Linda and Mike McGovern:

Subject: Help me support Shave for a Cure

 Hi there,

I’ve decided to do this crazy thing for an amazing cause. My 4 year old grandson was diagnosed with leukaemia and is in Starship Hospital. I want to help find effective treatments to shave lives and make sure people with cancer get the support they need to get through.

So I need your help!

Please sponsor me for this great cause. It's simple, fast and totally secure. Just click this link: https://www.shaveforacure.co.nz/tatesmates  whip out your credit card, and Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand will email you a tax deductible receipt for your generosity.

Thanks for all your support!

Mike McGovern

Without any hesitation we would absolutely love to support the McGovern family in raising funds for cancer research. We all know how much joy and excitement tennis brings to our lives. However, there are many people in our community who are struggling with cancer and are not able to enjoy life to the fullest. That's why our tennis club has decided to organize a "shave for a cure" fundraiser, to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

Saturday May 27 - We will hold a fundraiser at the club. Details are being worked through so as to provide a day of entertainment - exhibition tennis, music etc -  and to maximise the funds raised.

We're asking for your support to make this event a success. It's a simple yet powerful way to show our solidarity and support for the McGovern family and all those who are battling cancer. By participating in the fundraiser, you'll not only help raise money for cancer research but also encourage others to get involved.

We understand that shaving your head may not be an easy decision for everyone, but we urge you to consider the impact your participation can have. You'll be sending a powerful message of hope and support to cancer patients and their families, and inspiring others to join the fight against cancer.

So, whether you decide to shave your head, donate, or simply spread the word about the fundraiser, we appreciate your support. Let's come together as a tennis community to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.

Further details will follow nearer to the time.

"Hump Day Doubles League"- each Wednesday May 10 - June 28 @ 6.30pm start

Following the success of last year's edition we are again running this new style concept for Wednesday evenings. Our members' requested something a little more competitive for a club session, but still with a social element and the flexibility to allow if you can't make it for that night.

What is it:  Find a doubles partner and "pair up" for the duration of the 7 week league (also enter as a single needing a partner). No compulsion to be there every week but the objective is to accumulate as many points as you can toward league end. Rewarding attendance and match success at the same time!

When is it?  The league will run each Wednesday from May 10 through June 28 from 6.30pm till approxi 8.00pm. Warm up hit ups from 6- 6.30. Peter Blow will be doing the draw and facilitating the games.

How will it work: You will play 3 short format matches per evening. For each match you win you will be awarded "points" toward your season tally. Peter will grade the matches according to playing levels. Depending on entry numbers and playing level disparities, he may run the comp in 2 divisions with a promotion / relegation feature.

Can non members play in it? This doubles league is available to all tennis players - Papamoa tennis membership not essential.

How much does it cost? This league is a free option for Papamoa Tennis Club members, whereas all visitors / casuals will need to pay $10 per player per night.
