Christmas comes early for Miramar Tennis Club

Kia ora club members,

Christmas comes early for Miramar Tennis Club

We hope everyone is enjoying the festive season and the lead up to Christmas.

Christmas has certainly come early for Miramar Tennis Club, with the notification that the New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT)  has approved funding that is to go towards the court resurfacing project.

This is great news for the club! The courts have lasted incredibly well (over 14 years) and although still in reasonable condition, the courts are well overdue to get resurfaced. The last two years of Covid disruptions did not help the funding process, however, it's great to get the green light to get the project back on track.

Miramar is proud to have one of the best tennis facilities in the Wellington region and the resurfacing will set us up well for our next chapter.

Work on the courts will commence in the next few weeks. Notification will go out as soon as we have things booked in by the contractor laying the new courts.

Unfortunately for the membership, it will mean the courts will be out of action for approximately a week. However, after a small break over the Christmas/New Year period, it will be very exciting to come back to brand new courts to play on.

Getting the resurfacing done at this time is the best time of the year, as it is the least disruptive to private coaching, school coaching groups, interclub, and general court useage.

Covid 19 - CVC Mandate

In our club update earlier this month, we announced that an interim decision had been made to remain operating our courts and clubrooms without requiring members and visitors to have proof of COVID-19 vaccination. As mentioned, the decision was made swiftly in order to give Tennis Central club-by-cub statuses for the final round of interclub.

We appreciate the members who took the time to give us feedback on the decision, and their thoughts on the best way forward. Upon further review, the following motion was raised and passed at a committee meeting on Monday 20 December:

Resolution: That, in accordance with the move to the Government's COVID-19 protection framework, Miramar Tennis Club requires vaccination passes for the whole facility. Members and visitors to the club will require proof of COVID-19 vaccine to use the courts, and/or the club room facilities.

This will come into effect on Monday 3 January, and we will update our website and online booking system accordingly.

We acknowledge the possible impact this could have on some club members. Should you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a committee member to discuss.

The committee will review the Covid policy at each committee meeting and at each change in the traffic light system.

Sponsorship

We would like to welcome Clifford Lawson from Loan Market who will be joining the sponsorship family in 2022. Clifford is a Miramar local and is delighted to be able to help our community club.

Christmas wrap up

Finally thanks to all the members new and old for being a part of the club. It’s great to see social tennis really picking up and the interclub teams have all done really well this season after a wet and windy start. Many teams finishing near the top of the table and or reaching their goals of promotion or retaining their position in their grade.

Merry Christmas everyone - enjoy the holidays stay safe and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year
