Junior Club Program

A Junior (13 to 18yrs) or Hot Shots (12yrs and under) membership includes many benefits in our comprehensive club programme. These memberships include club coaching at all levels for school terms 4 & 1, Interclub, Sunday Community Hot Shots/Family Hits year round, optional match play practices before or after coaching, parent forums, parent Hot Shots tennis courses, tennis pathway information, access to courts on Sunday afternoons, club champs and other events. Members can also take part in other coaching programmes on a user pays basis for example holiday programmes, private lessons and development squads.

Coaching

In the summer school terms, coaching is included in terms 4 & 1 as part of their membership fee with early bird coaching in the last two weeks of Term 3 for those that become members or renew their membership in September. In winter, for those that are keen to continue group coaching, sessions are available for school terms 2 & 3 on a user pays basis.

Coaching starts for children age 4 to 5 years with Hot Shots the national starter programme for children, which uses shorter racquets and softer balls and progress through small to regular court sizes to make learning tennis easy and fun until about the age of 11 yrs. Players are taught in small groups based on age and ability. Hot Shots coaching takes place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sunday afternoons.  Hot Shots programmes are also held at local schools to give children a taste of tennis. Once players have mastered the basics of tennis through Hot Shots and are ready to move to tennis with a yellow ball, they progress to the Yellow Ball Coaching, B grade coaching or A grade coaching.

Performance Squads

Talented and committed juniors are invited to apply for the club's junior squad sessions which are an additional weekly tennis session for those juniors that want more tennis training. They receive even more individual attention and more intensive coaching to prepare for age group nationals as well as local and regional tournaments. Sessions run weekly on a Monday, rain or shine. An additional fee per term applies for squads.

Interclub

A full junior membership includes participation in an interclub team if wanted. Interclub for juniors takes place on Friday evenings during Term 4 and Term 1 in Orange Grade, Green Grade and Youth Grade Interclub, versus clubs from the New Plymouth district area.  Both singles and doubles games are played.  Each team has four players (boys and/or girls) and a parent manager. Players must be available to play most weeks during the season. Experienced juniors play B grade or A grade on a Saturdays.

Match Practices

Match practice is available on a weekly basis for Juniors either before or after coaching sessions - we will match up those keen for more.  Practice matches are also organised on Sunday afternoons.  All junior members are welcome to practices whether they play interclub or not.

Community Hot Shots / Family Hits

The courts are open at 3pm on Sundays over the Summer months for Community Hot Shots / Family Hits where parents lead the way with Hot Shots games for their children.  Hot Shots equipment and balls are provided.  Free!

Holiday Programmes

These are held during school holidays and cater for a range of abilities at an extra cost paid directly to the coach.

Club Champs and Events

Our junior club champs are a popular annual event held towards the end of the summer season. This is often our new junior and Hot Shots players first taste of a fun tournament.
