Tennis Northland Head Coach Vacancy:
Tennis Northland is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Coach to lead programme delivery, foster player development, and grow tennis participation across the region. This part-time contractor role (20 hours per week, $50-70/hr) offers flexibility and opportunities to shape the future of tennis in Northland.
Position Description:
The Head Coach is responsible for delivering high-quality coaching programmes, growing junior interclub, running tournaments, and engaging with schools and local clubs to grow the game. The role also provides opportunities for private coaching and additional contracting with clubs outside of Tennis Northland hours.
Reports to: Tennis Northland General Manager
Duties and Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Deliver Tennis New Zealand programs, including Hot Shots, Cardio Tennis, and Tennis Xpress
- Lead in-school coaching programs and holiday tennis programs
- Serve as Tournament Director for Tennis Northland events
- Grow participation in Junior Interclub
- Provide group and individual coaching sessions as required
- Build strong relationships with local clubs, schools, and community groups to promote tennis participation
- Ensure all coaching activities align with best practices for player development and safety
Key Requirements:
- Coaching certification (preferably Tennis New Zealand or equivalent international certification)
- Proven experience in coaching tennis across various age groups and skill levels
- Strong organisational and event management skills, particularly in running tournaments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A passion for developing grassroots tennis and growing player participation
- Current first aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid driver’s license
Additional Opportunities:
- The Head Coach may run private coaching sessions at Thomas Neale Family Memorial Park outside of Tennis Northland hours.
- There is also the option to contract with local tennis clubs to deliver junior coaching and group programs.
- Pro-shop – option to run a pro-shop out of the facility at Thomas Neale Family Memorial Park.
