Northland Primary & Secondary Schools Doubles Tournaments

Northland’s Primary & Intermediate Schools enjoyed a huge day of tennis on 4 March, with two tournaments running simultaneously in Whangārei and the Far North. Both events brought together enthusiastic young players, strong school spirit, and plenty of competitive but friendly doubles action.


Whangārei Primary & Intermediate Schools Doubles Tournament

Thomas Neale Tennis Centre hosted 148 players across the Year 7 and 8 grades, with many players experiencing their first taste of inter‑school competition.

  • Year 7 Girls - Mila Walters & Andi McCullough (TKIS); runners‑up: Scarlett Nelson & Millar Brown (TKIS)
  • Year 8 Girls - Riley Roberts & Zoe Tyler‑Whiteman (TKIS); runners‑up: Pippa Peyton & Kiedis Brown (Matarau)
  • Year 7 Boys - Max Gribble & Max Jarman‑Taylor (TKIS); runners‑up: Wayne Clarke & Kyron Coyne (TKIS)
  • Year 8 Boys - Tom Saunders & Brooklyn Markwick (TKIS) and Rivah James & Max Borman (TKIS) tied for first; runners‑up: Braxton Henty & Spencer Warrington (TKIS)

Far North Primary & Intermediate Schools Doubles Tournament

At the same time, Kerikeri Tennis & Pickleball Club hosted the Far North event, giving younger players another opportunity to get on court and compete. A special thank‑you goes to Guy from Tui Tennis NZ for leading the delivery of this tournament while our team was running the Whangārei event. Collaborations like this help us continue expanding school tennis opportunities across the region.

  • Year 5/6 Mixed - Winners: Wyatt Fouhy & Zeb O’Donnell; runners‑up: Roy Tapp & Ngatiwai Heihei
  • Year 7/8 Girls - Winners: Charlotte Thorburn & Camilla Stirling; runners‑up: Charlie Dudek & Nina Burgess
  • Year 7/8 Boys - Winners: Eli & Georgia Kepu; runners‑up: Kohi Nock & Ned Lee
