NORTHLAND MASTERS TENNIS NEWS - November 2025

If you are over 30 and enjoy tennis, it’s time for you to consider becoming a Northland Masters member at the very low cost of $25.

Coming up in Easter next year is the TNZM teams event to be held in North Harbour. You can form your own teams and enter through our association. Get your team organised with quotes for accommodation to Dave Lobb by the end of January 2026 and he will do his best to get funding for your trip. Never doubt your ability to compete in these events.

In 2027 this event is going to be held in Northland and all players who are members by the end of 2026 will receive a free masters playing shirt for the tournament.

For your $25 you get:

  • The opportunity to play in the two tournaments we run. One is the Charlie Tana Handicap Mixed Doubles. Greg Miller and Raewyn Heywood have been winners for the last few years so they need challenging! This tournament is for members only. The other is our Northland Masters tournament that is open to anyone who is a member of a Masters club in NZ.
  • To be selected in the Northland Seniors Rep team that plays games against Lower Northland, North Harbour and Auckland and occasionally other provinces. Games are played over the winter months. The Timperley Cup is up for grabs. We lost it last season and would really like it back as it was put up by our patron Ervine Timperley some time ago. A wider range of players would help our selectors put a powerful team together.
  • You have to be a member to play in any National Event. There are National Events for all age groups in five yearly increments. Eg 30+, 35+, 40+ …….60+, 65+ …. 75+ in both Men and Women’s events
  • There is a National Teams Event that follows the same age structure. Northland are currently the best club in NZ picking up a gold and 3 silvers in this event held in Tauranga in 2025. You can make up your own teams
  • Receive information and play in the many Seniors/Masters tournaments held all over NZ
  • If there is demand, we will try and revive our club day. This was canned last season as only 3 or 4 people were attending. Ball is in your court on this one!
  • Subs are due before the end of November.

Currently our club officials are: President Paul Ramsay, Secretary Moira Newton and Treasurer Dave Lobb. Team selector is Keith Cocking and he is looking to co-opt a female helper. Committee includes Raewyn Heywood, Barry Newton, Shelley Yeates, Margaret Harper, Dawn Rogers. Feel free to talk to any of these people.

We hope that you will consider joining this club and play with people of a like mind and at a competitive level.

Yours in tennis

Paul Ramsay
