Etiquette
Hey members!
Your common sense will be super helpful while using the club. But here’s some things you should take note of anyway.
It really is best to book a court if you want to play.
We just have the three courts at Churton Park and winging it almost never ends well.
All courts are booked on a first-come first-served basis and are limited to a maximum of two-hour durations at one time. Members who have booked a court will have priority over those winging it, and scheduled inter-club matches trump pretty much everything else.
When booking a court, keep in mind that the club member making the court booking is considered the host, and is responsible for the court during that time. If you book a court and then change your mind, please cancel your booking to free it up for others. Also, your booking time is your time, so if you are late for your booking, your scheduled finish time is the correct finish time.
Our club is for members use only.
Being able to play freely and easily is one of the best reasons to join our club.
Youth members under 12 must have an adult actively supervising them.
Even if your child is a good kid, responsible, mature, etc, if they are under 12 years old, they will need an adult to actively supervise their play. Bring a book, it’ll be nice.
You need to be dressed properly to play tennis.
You don’t need to crack out the tennis whites, but you do need to wear sports clothes or similar attire to play.
Tee-shirt, shorts, leggings etc are all fine. Also, black soled sneakers wreck the court, so leave them at home.
Key access and using the lights
Your door key is also the floodlight key. Be careful not to lock yourself out, and if others are playing when you’re leaving make sure they have their key to switch with yours – don’t lend your club key to anyone else, even to other members. Floodlights must be turned off by 10pm. Don’t fight us on this one, it’s a bylaw.
During play
Again, common sense will inform most of us to not cross or walk behind the court while play in progress. Wait for players to finish the point, then go. Same with retrieving a ball. Wait for the point, then ask for your ball or quietly collect it.
Regardless of how your game might be going, try to keep your voice to a minimum, don’t throw your racket, and keep your words clean. Oh, and phones on silent, please.
General use
If you unlock something on arrival at the club, make sure you lock it when you leave. Same with on/off switches. If you use it, clean up afterwards, you get the idea.
The courts are only for playing tennis. Viewing is from the deck area or the club. And absolutely no skateboards or bikes to be used on the courts – even if the court aren’t in use.
Dogs on leashes are welcome on the deck area and surrounds so long as they are quiet, restrained, and are not reactive to tennis balls for obvious reasons. Clean up after your dog, and take their mess away with you.
Our club, courts and surrounds are smokefree – that also includes vaping.
