Hi Vicky,

Celebrating a Huge Year for Our Club

This season has been one to remember for our club, with outstanding success both on and off the court. We are incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of our coaching team and our young players, whose hard work, dedication and sportsmanship have been recognised with some major awards this year.

These achievements reflect the many hours of effort put in by players, coaches, families, volunteers and supporters who all contribute to making our club such a positive and successful place to be.

To celebrate, we invite all members, families and supporters to join us for a Club Celebration Day - a chance to recognise these fantastic accomplishments, enjoy some time together, and acknowledge everyone who has helped make this year so special.

We hope to see you there as we celebrate not only the awards themselves, but the strong club spirit behind them.

CONGRATULATIONS: Hugo Nurse-Strang,  Tennis Canterbury's Performance Coach of the Year

Hugo has a passion for coaching anyone who takes an interest in tennis, regardless of skill age or ability, but this year it is his performance coaching that has really stood out.  In 2025/26 Hugo has coached the Junior Female (Tatiana Na) and Junior Male (Ray Xu) players of the year to National Titles as well as coaching Sakeri Parnell who made the final of the 16U National Individual Championships and won the Christchurch J60 ITF singles title.  As well as his head coach role at TKHP, Hugo also contributes to the Tennis Canterbury Player Development Programme and delivers Coach Development Programmes for Tennis NZ.

Congratulations: Tatiana Na - Tennis Canterbury's Player of the Year.  Ranked the number one 12U, 13U, 14U and 15U girl in New Zealand, Tatiana won all 4 National Individual 12U singles titles in 2025 as well as a number of doubles and 14U titles.  At just 12 years of age, she had one of the best records in Women's Division 1 Interclub (16 winds, 2 losses) and filled in for the title winning TKHP Premier Women's team winning 3 of her 4 matches.  In 2025/26 Tatiana won the Junior Premier Secondary Interclub competition as well as the Women's Division 1 Senior Interclub title.

Tatiana travelled to Europe for the exclusive IMG future stars tournament in Greece and since then she's played 3 more top level European Junior tour events, competing against some of the best 12U players in the world. She reached the final last week, and this week she won the title at the All In Open in France. We are very proud of you Tatiana.

Congratulations: Ray Xu - Tennis Canterbury's Junior Male Player of the Year.  Ray is the number 1 ranked 17 year old in New Zealand.  In 2025 Ray won the 16U National Indoor Singles Title and made the final of the 18U National Individual Singles Championships.  Ray won the Year 12/13 Individual champions and helped Christchurch Boys High School make the final of the Tennis Canterbury Premier Schools competition and secure third at the National Second Schools Championships going through both competitions unbeaten.

Ray has also competed incredibly well in the two ITF tournaments he played recently in Lautoka, Fiji. Ray fought through a fair bit of cramping across the two tournaments as he battled the hot and humid conditions. He won 5 singles matches and his only 2 losses across the two tournaments were against the number 1 seed who was a finalist in the first tournament and winner of the 2nd. Most impressively, Ray teamed up with another strong young Cantabrian, Riley Breen, to win the doubles in both tournaments. Outstanding!!

PICKLEBALL

Picklers have been enjoying the movable nets on Court 5, and have been making the most of our session times:

Monday 10-12 and 6-9, Wednesday 10-12, Thursday 7-9, Friday 10-12 and 5:30 - 7:30, Saturday 10-12 and Sunday 4-5:30.

The Committee is still looking for members to step into roles that will become vacant this August as some long-serving committee members step down.

Our club only continues to thrive because people are willing to contribute their time, ideas and energy behind the scenes. If you enjoy being part of the club, please take a good look at how you might be able to step up and help.

Whether you can offer a little time or take on a larger role, every contribution makes a real difference and helps ensure the club continues to grow and succeed for future members.
