Remembering Phil
Members of the club were saddened to hear of the recent passing of long-time member Phil Trusttum, who had been part of our tennis community for many years.
Phil was a familiar and much-valued presence at the club for decades. A fierce competitor with a sharp tennis mind, he was always keen to ensure the correct ruling on the occasional knotty point of tennis law. He took the game seriously, but always with enthusiasm and enjoyment, and he relished both the competition and the social side of club life.
For many years he played regularly in a weekly four with Alex Sutherland and others. Those who shared the court with him remember his tremendous enthusiasm and his remarkable - perhaps occasionally rose-coloured - memory of matches and tournaments played together. As Alex recalls, despite Phil's fond recollections of their campaigns, "we never won anything!"
Beyond the court, Phil was widely known as a talented and respected artist. His love of tennis also found its way into his art through a series of "tennis paintings" that captured the sport in imaginative ways.
Phil's generosity to the club was extraordinary. More than a decade ago he began donating one of his paintings each year to be raffled at the annual Masters tournament - works that often sold for well over $1,000. The tradition continued year after year, including for the 2026 tournament, and the club is several thousand dollars better off thanks to his kindness.
Although breathing problems meant Phil stopped playing tennis around five years ago, he remained connected with the club and its members, even attending the Thursday group's casual pre-Christmas drinks last year.
Phil will be remembered as a talented artist, a generous supporter of the club, a thoughtful friend, and an enthusiastic player who contributed greatly to the spirit of our tennis community.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
In Senior news:
Thursday night "anti-social hits" 😜 are starting to build up again after a bit of a lull. For players who compete in men's or women's interclub, please come and join in on these hits when you can and also try to encourage your teammates.
We have so many strong tennis players at this club and it's a great opportunity to have some serious singles and doubles hitting and connect with others.

Pickleball Sessions:
You may be wondering what the session times are once we are into our Winter hours.
We are pleased to be able to confirm that from the 1st of April - day sessions will be run between 10-12 noon. Night sessions 7-9pm, except for Friday nights 6-8pm.
