JULY 2024
We warmly welcome everyone to our club, a proud and diverse community with many nationalities passing through our gates. Our club's AGM is next month, and we encourage YOU to join the dedicated team that runs this club for you. By joining the committee, you'll help shape the future of our tennis community. Expressions of interest are being taken now.
Wimbledon is in full flight at the moment (hoping everyone knows you can watch it on demand on TVNZ+) This is a fabulous reminder of our 50th Lawn Tennis Tournament which is happening in January 2025. Why? Because it is Wimbledon Themed. Think strawberries, Pimms and white outfits. The committee are working hard in the background to make this a memorable event which we would like you to be part of.

Suzanne Lenglen: The world's first global sporting celebrity
On the heels of Roland Garros, this article published by the BBC is a wonderful read.
"After the French Open unveiled a new roof for their court named after Suzanne Lenglen – its concertina-style design inspired by her pleated skirts – a look at the 1920s athlete who blazed a trail for modern sports stars."

Last April we hosted a group of tennis players who had just attended the 2024 Odea Cup World Chinese Tennis Championships in Auckland. This was a project led by James Li, a member of Pakuranga Tennis Club and huge tennis enthusiast. The group having finished their competition headed south to do some tourist activities. They loved playing on our courts and it was a great display of tennis.

BRISBANE - JULY 2024
Over the last 11 days I had the privilege of traveling to Brisbane as coach for 4 of our high performing TKHP junior boys and 3 other kiwi players to two major tournaments.
The boys were competing in the Rod Laver Lead in and Rod Laver state championships- The latter is the largest junior age group tournament in Queensland and it attracts top players from around Australia, NZ and some other counties.
Our boys played at a fantastic level and really did their club, their coach and themselves proud. The most pleasing aspect is the way they fought hard in every match and were also friendly and sportsmanlike throughout.
To top it off, they had outstanding results winning far more matches than they lost and often beating higher ranked opponents.
Sakeri Parnell (TKHP And Burnside) won the singles title in the top tier 14U Champs. It was the performance of his life so far, with three wins against seeded players. He also came 9th in the lead-in event with 4 wins from 5.
Ray Xu reached the quarterfinals of the singles and doubles of the championships, pairing with Sakeri in the doubles. Ray also wowed spectators with his huge power game and reeled off a huge number of winners in every match. Louis Tian and Tiger Wang played in the graded events and Louis managed to reach the final of his grade in singles and the semifinals of doubles.
I hope to tour with more TKHP players to these awesome tournaments next year.
