Last weekend saw the annual Fisher Cup tournament fought between local East Auckland Clubs – Pakuranga, Bucklands Beach, Howick, and Cockle Bay.

Concurrently, the Cucksey Shield tournament was also held and featured two additional clubs, Koru and Sunnyhills.

Proudly, we are thrilled to report Pakuranga won the Cucksey Shield! We recorded the win with 253 points, the closest rival being Cockle Bay on 237 points. The win was significant also, in that we had to bring in our two reserves at the last minute.

The tournament was donated by a Tim Cucksey in 1944 for a competition then featuring ourselves, Bucklands Beach, Sunnyhills and Howick Clubs.

Pakuranga last won the Cucksey Shield in 2022. So, congratulations team for bringing the Shield home to where it belongs!

Unfortunately, we were unable to replicate the same success in the higher-graded Fisher Cup, which we last won in 2023.

A creditable 141 points was achieved against the winners Bucklands Beach who scored 191 points. Fortune also did not favour us, as we had to replace both Roger and Denver at an early stage of the games, due to injury.

Special mention must be made of the youngest team members in our Fisher Cup team - Alvin & Gloria Young, Yu An Dong and Ching Kwok. Playing at Pakuranga in a team of four, they each played six matches against teams from Bucklands Beach, Cockle Bay and Howick. These young four were the best of all the teams playing at Pakuranga, scoring 66 points, 10 more than the nearest opposition!
