Juniors
Junior and Little Ace Membership
Juniors are club members aged from 12 to 18 years as at 1 September of any year; once they turn 19 before that date, they become Senior club members.
Little Aces are club members aged below 12 years as at 1 September of any year.
Our Junior Programme is run by a Junior Convenor working alongside the Club’s contracted coaching provider – Cyperus Tennis + Fitness, and a keen group of parent volunteers who manage the Junior teams.
Junior Club Nights
The Club runs a club night for Juniors and Little Aces from 5.30pm to 7.00pm on Friday evenings over terms 4 and 1 of the school year. Coaches are present to organise groups on the courts. A group of Club volunteers run the barbeque to fuel the children and their supporters. All children in the Karori community are invited to these sessions.
In addition, Juniors who play in senior interclub teams, or who are listed on the club's senior ranking list are welcome to join senior members on senior club nights on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7.30pm to 10pm.
Junior Tournaments
The club holds Junior Club Championships, which in recent years have been held over a weekend toward the end of the summer season. Events, both singles and doubles, based on age, are arranged based on the number of entries. All juniors are encouraged to enter.
The club runs a Parent and Child Tournament on Waitangi Day of each year, weather permitting, with grades of Beginner, Intermediate and Open. Juniors are encouraged to enter with a parent or other older relative or family friend and enjoy the fun.
Junior Interclub
The Junior Interclub competitions organised by Tennis Capital-Coast run over the summer Pre-Christmas and Post-Christmas periods (term 4 and term 1 of the school year) with a break in-between for school holidays. Currently, all Wellington competitions are played on Sunday mornings either at various club courts or the Renouf Centre.
KUTC aims to enter teams in the three competitions – Wellington Boys, Wellington Girls and Wellington Mixed Hot Shots. Interclub is a great way for players to put their coaching into practice with teammates. Teams are graded based on ability. Once players start interclub, they receive a player code and a ranking that will be updated after each match is recorded.
The Hot Shots competition is suitable for first time interclub players aged 12 and under and is played with low compression balls.
If your Junior or Litle Ace is interested in playing in one of our teams, please email our Junior Interclub Convenor, Darren Ward. Depending on the timing of your inquiry it may not be possible for your child to be immediately placed in a team, but we will do our very best.
Note that Juniors and Little Aces playing in an interclub team are charged an interclub fee toward the costs of team entry fees and the balls issued for the matches. There are separate fees for junior and senior interclub teams.
Coaching
Private, semi-private, group and squad coaching sessions are available at the club courts, primarily after school on weekdays during school terms. In addition, there may be holiday programmes on weekdays during school holidays. See the Coaching page on this website.
