Events and Calendar

In Nelson, tennis is played socially all-year-round. Clubs maintain social playing events throughout the year weather permitting.

Typically the season begins in September with the start of spring. Often clubs will start with an open-day which may coincide with Tennis NZ’s “Love Tennis” promotion.

Interclub for adults and juniors is typically played from mid-October to March each year with a break over the holiday season.

Other events, such as cup and school events are dispersed over the Spring and Summer seasons with a few taking place in autumn or even early winter.

EVENTS:

Selection process:

  • Clubs select senior interclub teams.
  • Coaches support the selection process for junior interclub teams in conjunction with NBTA’s Regional Coordinator
  • Schools select school teams or school representatives.
  • Junior training/qualifying squads are selected with coaches' support and facilitated by an NBTA sub-committee or NBTA-nominated facilitator.
  • For senior and junior regional competitions, such as cup events and shields, etc., one or a combination of the follow processes may be used.

                     - Qualifying / Play off event.

                     - Interclub/Tournament results

                     - Club or coach recommendations

                     - Match Hub Ranking points

                     - Selection committee - overseen by an NBTA Committee representative.

                     - Each player must also be an affiliated member of an NBTA club.

As NBTA prepares for each event, we will strive to name the selection process for each event in advance, and the method used is subject to the support NBTA has from volunteers at the time.

Any committee member with a ‘conflict of interest’ will be removed from the final decision-making process. However, they may help with administrative duties for an event.
