Miramar Tennis Club Newsletter - June 2025

The club committee held a meeting on Monday 9 June and, as usual, have quite a few things to update members on.

Miramar Named Tennis Central Premier Club of the Year!

We’re thrilled to announce that Miramar Tennis Club has recently been awarded the Tennis Central Premier Club of the Year!

This honour is a testament to the strength and depth of our Premier men's and women's teams. A huge thank you to all the players who have worked incredibly hard throughout the year, delivering outstanding results — including winning the Men’s Premier 1 post-Christmas competition and making it all the way to the grand final.

We also want to acknowledge and thank the team managers, coaches, sponsors and club administrators whose support behind the scenes has been invaluable in making this success possible. Extremely well done!

Constitution update - IMPORTANT PLEASE READ!

In recent newsletters we have been providing information about the club constitution revision process that we have to undertake this year to comply with the new Incorporated Societies Act 2022.. As we mentioned, we will be working on this throughout this year, with the aim of putting a revised constitution to members at our AGM in August.

The committee has now agreed on a draft version of the constitution for consultation with members. We have now put this up on a page on our website, along with some more information about the draft, including how you can find out more and provide feedback. Here’s the link:

You can email Aidan (the Club Secretary) with any questions and feedback at miramartennis@xtra.co.nz  and we will also be holding a webinar on Tuesday 1 July at 7pm. If you wish to attend this, please register through the link on the new webpage.

The benefits of club membership

We know of course that many of you are already enjoying the benefits of club membership, but we also know there may be some of you - both seniors and juniors - that just come along to the club for coaching, or to use the pay-to-play option.

Our members are at the core of what we do and how we operate as a club. It is the membership fees that keep the club running and allow us to save towards projects to improve the club - such as the current project to replace the deck. Members get discounted rates for coaching and can book courts for free anytime. It is also only our members that get a direct say in how the club is run through voting rights at general meetings.

We strongly encourage all players who engage regularly with the club through coaching (or any other means)  to consider membership and become a part of this great club! If you would like any more information about this, please contact Shane, our Club President, at shanebinne@gmail.com and have a look at our membership page on the club website.

Coaching and Holiday Programme

Our new head coach Andy (Future Aces) is getting stuck into his new role building up Miramar as a centre for tennis coaching expertise. He is always looking to expand the range of classes and squads on offer. If you don’t see anything that fits you (or your children) contact Andy directly and he may well be able to set something up. You can contact him at info@future-aces.com

We encourage you to have a look at the coaching page of our website for the details about the classes on offer and how to book a session: https://clubspark.kiwi/miramartennisclub/Coaching

You can also find out more about Andy at here: https://clubspark.kiwi/miramartennisclub/Coaching/Meetthecoach

Andy will be running a holiday programme in both weeks of the school holidays. Registrations are open through the coaching page on the website.

MTC Annual General Meeting

The committee has agreed that we will hold the club AGM on Friday 15 August at 6pm. We will follow this with drinks, prize giving and some general socialising at 6.30pm.

Please note: We will be putting the revised club constitution to the vote at this AGM. This is a necessary step as part of reregistering the club under the new legislation and we strongly encourage all members to come and be involved in this process.

Just a reminder …

Love Tennis

I know it is a little way away yet, but preparation for our Love Tennis open day is already underway. It will take place from 10-2 on Sunday 7 September.  https://tennis.kiwi/clubs/lovetennis-overview/

Upstairs Bookings

Just a reminder that the upstairs of the clubhouse is separately bookable by members. So if you need to escape, wind down, play a bit of table tennis, head to the booking page.

Flood lights

Please be aware of our obligations with the flood lights. If only two courts are in use, please turn off the lights for 3 and 4 and just use 1 and 2. Flood lights must be turned off by 10pm (no exceptions).

Indoor club days

Look out for notification about the opportunity to play indoors at the Renouf Tennis Centre using our club credits. (Another benefit of membership)
