Box League Format: Teams are grouped into "boxes" based on playing level. Over each 3-week round, teams compete against others in their box.
Team Structure:
- Each team has 4 players (any gender combination).
- Every Sunday, the team plays 4 doubles matches (2 matches per person) - Players 1 & 2 vs 1 & 2, Players 3 & 4 vs 3 & 4, Players 1 & 4 vs 1 & 4, Players 2 & 3 vs 2 & 3
- Substitutes are allowed if similar in ability and Tennis Northland is informed of the change.
- Open to everyone – you do not have to be a member of an affiliated club, and teams can be made up of players from a mixture of clubs.
Match Format:
- Best of 3 tiebreaker sets with a super tiebreaker (first to 10 points with a 2 point margin) played instead of a third set.
- Normal tennis rules apply.
Results:
- The draw and results will go on Match Hub
- The winning team is responsible for sending results to Tennis Northland.
- 1 match won = 1 point
- 2 bonus points for the team who wins the tie (if 2-2, each team gets 1 bonus point each).
- The maximum number of points a team can get each week is 6 (i.e., 4 points from winning all 4 matches, plus 2 bonus points).
Promotion & Relegation:
- Each 3 week round, teams earn points based on match wins. At the end of each round:
- The top team in each box moves up
- The bottom team moves down
- New teams can enter, and existing teams may exit (i.e. you are only committing to 3 weeks at a time)
Weather:
- In the case of bad weather, teams must arrange to make up the matches in their own time before the end of the round.
Entry Fee: $30 per round per team
Balls: Wilson tennis balls will be provided by Tennis Northland
