NORTHLAND SENIORS TENNIS NEWS - MAY 2025
Northland Seniors is a club that caters for those over 30. We charge only $25 annually due on 1st November if you already belong to another club. If you don’t belong to another club, we charge another $40 to pay NZ Tennis an affiliation fee.
For your $25 you get:
- The opportunity to play in the two tournaments we run. One is the Charlie Tana Handicap Mixed Doubles played in July. The other is our Seniors tournament played in August. For both tournaments the entry fee for members is cheaper than non members.
- The opportunity to be selected in the Northland Seniors Rep team that plays games against Lower Northland, North, Harbour and Auckland and occasionally other provinces. Games are played over the winter months.
- The opportunity to play in any National Event. There are National Events for all age groups in five yearly increments. Eg 30+, 35+, 40+ …….60+, 65+ …. 75+ in both Men and Women’s events
- There is a National Teams Event that follows the same age structure. Northland are currently the best club in NZ picking up 2 golds and 2 silvers in this event held in Tauranga recently. You can make up your own teams
- The opportunity to play in the many Seniors/Masters tournaments held all over NZ
In Easter 2027 Northland Seniors are looking to host the National Teams Event in Northland spread over various clubs in and around Whangarei. As part of this anyone who pays a sub by November 1, 2026 for the 2027 season will receive a Northland shirt that can be worn in this competition. You’ll just have to tell us your size!
Currently our club officials are: President Paul Ramsay, Secretary Moira Newton and Treasurer Dave Lobb. Team selectors are Keith Cocking and Julie Taylor. Committee includes Raewyn Heywood, Barry Newton, Shelley Yeates, Margaret Harper, Dawn Rogers. Feel free to talk to any of these people.
We hope that you will consider joining this club and play with people of a like mind and at a competitive level.
Yours in tennis,
Paul
Tennis Northland Seniors is very pleased to acknowledge the contribution made to our recent success at the National Teams Event in Tauranga, by PUBCHARITY. The winning of the John Mickell trophy with 2 golds and 2 silvers was achieved with an accommodation subsidy from PUBCHARITY, which allowed some players who may not have afforded the trip otherwise.
PUBCHARITY is represented in Northland by Grand Hotel, Onerahi Tavern and Poroti Tavern. Members are encouraged to support these venues.
