NORTHLAND SENIORS TENNIS NEWS  – August 2025

There are a couple of things our members need to be aware of so read on and find out what they are.

Firstly, congratulations to all who took part in our tournament on a lovely day last weekend. It was great to play on a dry court with very little wind. Winners were:

A Men’s Doubles Winners – Mike Clapshaw and Jonathon Yates A Men’s Doubles RU – Bryce Attwood and Steve Brockbank B Men’s Doubles Winners – Rod Langton and Dave Paul B Men’s Doubles RU – Paul Ramsay and Steve Poole

Women's Doubles Winners – Ruth Jones and Pauline Fudge

Women's RU – Maryanne Rogers and Colleen Corkery

Many thanks to Cheryl Baker for taking entries and running the day and to Margaret Ramsay who did all the catering and kept everyone well fed.

Moira Newton and I attended the TNZ Masters AGM on line a couple of weeks back. Two things arose which will affect us from this. Tennis Northland Seniors will have to develop a constitution so we can affiliate with TNZM or our players will be ineligible for entry to national tournaments. Sometime soon I will send this around for comment. It is pretty much the same as the one most clubs have had to adopt recently. The affiliation fees from TNZM are slowly creeping up and will soon be $14 a player. This doesn’t leave a lot of your $25 sub for us. Lastly the Teams event is in North Harbour next year so nice and close. Time to start getting a team together for this event and joining up with the Northland Seniors when subs are due soon.

In 2027 the Easter teams event will be held in Northland based at Thomas Neale. Several people have volunteered to guide us through the early stages but we are going to need more help nearer the time possibly from those not playing. If you have any thoughts or are keen to help out with this fixture, please let one of the people below know. Tell everyone you know about this event. Kamo Club and McKay Stadium are already booked for social functions and we are in the process of sorting caterers and a band.
