Club Affiliation

Kilbirnie Tennis Club is affiliated with Tennis Central Region (TCR) and pays an annual affiliation fee (based on membership). TCR promote and market tennis regionally, support club management, facilitate club development/capability, represent central club interests' nationally, facilitate coach development, foster top regional tennis talent, organise interclub competitions, organise regional and national tournaments, and manages the regional tennis facility (Renouf Tennis Centre).

TCR is in turn affiliated with Tennis New Zealand (TNZ). TNZ promotes and markets tennis nationally, provides national strategy, provides systems and policies for clubs, supports regions and associations, develops national tennis coaching and umpire programmes, trains and certifies coaches and umpires, fosters top NZ tennis talent, organises international tournaments (NZ Open).

TNZ is affiliated with  the International Tennis Federation (ITF).  The ITF is the governing body of world tennis. It was founded in 1913 and as of 2016 was affiliated with 211 national tennis associations and six regional associations.

The ITF's governance responsibilities include maintaining and enforcing the rules of tennis, regulating international team competitions, promoting the game, and preserving the sport's integrity via anti-doping and anti-corruption programs. The ITF partners with the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) to govern professional tennis.

The ITF organises the Grand Slam events, annual team competitions for men (Davis Cup), women (Billie Jean King Cup, previously called Fed Cup), and mixed teams (Hopman Cup), as well as tennis events at the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games on behalf of the International Olympic Committee. The ITF sanctions premier level circuits (tournaments) for juniors, men and women, seniors, wheelchair tennis, and beach tennis. In addition to these circuits, the ITF also maintains rankings for juniors, men, women, seniors, wheelchair tennis players, and beach tennis players.

TNZ is also affiliated with the Oceania Tennis Federation (OTF). The OTF is the regional governing body of tennis in Oceania. It was formed in 1993 to foster the development of tennis in the Oceania region with its main focus on small island nations (territories/dependencies) and Papua New Guinea as the structure of tennis in both Australia and New Zealand was already well developed.
